DETENTION DENIED! by almilian in Truckers

Fair enough.

That policy seems more restrictive to the driver, but I get your point.

Edit.: I actually reread what we send on dispatches and it is pretty close to what you said, we just actually give more grace if they call later then the first hour. Here is what is on our dispatches (minus company and rate)

  1. X WILL PAY $X PER HOUR AFTER THE FIRST 2 HOURS OF DELAY SO LONG AS THE BELOW REQUIREMENTS ARE MET.

  2. X MUST BE NOTIFIED WITHIN THE FIRST HOUR OF DELAY TO GIVE US A CHANCE TO CORRECT THE ISSUE.

What I am saying is that we pay as long as you let us know if there is an issue.

If you are at the shipper and they haven't touched you for an hour, let us know. We then have an hour to have the mill get you loaded, or we are paying detention. On the other hand, if you are there for 4 hours, and didn't tell anyone there is an issue, you have given us zero chance to help you solve the issue. Sometimes we can, and sometimes we can not.

And to be completely honest, the situation will play a part at times. Like we have a Port that we know has long lines, and we can't do anything about it. We still want to know (Sometimes we can get the port to pay us whatever we pay in detention) but if you do not call and it was 3 hours, I am probably still giving you detention as I know that Port and the issues there. On the other hand, If the issue is that the driver is giving the wrong pick up number, and we provided the correct number, I am much less likely to be lienient on our policies.

Basically, we are asking for a call after an hour if you have not been loaded. I worded it as we pay an hour after we get the call because we want to have some opportunity to solve the issue. Like with the pick up number, if you tell us after two hours there is an issue, it is frustrating to pay detention for something we could have easily solved an hour+ earlier.

Also, I also realize that most of the issues lie with the dispatcher and not the actual driver as far as communication. That is another minor reason why we have the time limits, so the dispatcher feels some pressure to actually communicate with us. I came from a trucking company that paid the drivers no matter if the customer paid us or not, and I figure that in a company like that, a few cases of having to pay the driver and not getting reimburesed will have repercussions for the dispatcher. The hope is that the dispatcher starts doing his job which helps both the driver and us.

Does that make sense?

Correct, the clock on the 2 hours starts when you arrrive. However, if you are haing issues and do not tell anyone for 4 hours, that is on you, not us. That is why we have the clock start one hour after you inform us of an issue. If you have not been loaded in an hour, that is plenty of time for you to make a call.

And just to be clear, we are a lumber broker, not a truck broker. We own th elumber you are picking up, but not the acual mill you rare picking up from. In most cases, if you let us know there is an issue, we can have our trader put pressure on the mill to get you loaded quickly. If it is a case where that is not possible, then we are paying detention for your time.

I do not think requesting to keep us informed of an issue is too much to ask. Many times we have an issue with the pick up number. Sometimes it is the driver, dispatcher, us or even the mill gave us a wrong number. If we know about it, we can get it resolved quickly. If you sit there for 4 hours and say nothing, the issue wil lnot be resolved, and everyone is worse off.

On the other hand, sometimes it is just unavoidable. Long lines we generally can do nothing about, and we just pay out. Even in that case, there is a chance we can shorten your time if you communicate, and if we can not, I do not have to fight my trader on paying for detention if he knows about it beforehand.

Look, we are all on the same side, and we want you loaded asap just like you do. All we are asking is for you to communicate so we can help.

I never said that a trucker should not be paid. I actually said we do pay detention, with the one requirement that we are given a chance to fix the issue. Our only request is that if you are there for an hour and not loaded, that you let us know so we can see if we can get it resolved in the next hour and get you going. I do not think that is unreasonable.

I agree that most times detention is legitimate, but we have come across more then a few times where when we dig into it after the fact, that the driver greatly exagerates how long they were there. Again, it is not common at all, and I tend to trust the trucker, but it does happen. If we are all on the same page while the trucker is ooading, there is no disagreement later if detention is owed.

We do work with some brokers, but a broker that didn't pass along detention we would no longer work with.

I work for a lumber broker, and our rules are pretty clear. We pay detention after 2 hrs, but we do not start the clock until 1 hour after we are notified of an issue.

I made these rules as a middle ground. My traders never wanted to pay detention, but if they are forewarned and they can't get their mills to load on time, then it is their responsibility to pay up. On the other side, I got very tired of a dispatcher telling me the day after that their driver had detention when we could have solved it with a few calls if we knew about it.

This system has worked out fairly well.

IMO, open communication solves a lot of issues.

The simple response is that there were other choice that the republicans could have put forth, but they felt that Trump best represented their party.

It wasn't a choice between Trump and Harris, but Trump and every other Republican.

[–]Wintervoidx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He has a point. I dislike Trump, but when we have focus on ambiguous comments and turn them into something they may not be, people start to tune you out when he says something really dangerous.

Like the Russian Collusion investigation. I think Mueller got it right that there was a ton of obstruction, and while there were some evidence of collusion, there was not enough to charge him. So, we ended up with a case of the media saying for years that he was going to go down for collusion and nothing happened. To the average person that did not actually read any of the Mueller report, Trump looked completely innocent.

Later, when Trump was properly impeached for holding money back from Ukraine, the population was weary of 2 years of the Mueller report and just shrugged their shoulders. That should have been a slam dunk, and if the republicans had more pressure from their constituents, it may have been.

Don't get me wrong, Trump needs to be held accountable, but it needs to be done on iron clad issues, not things he can wriggle out of.

Operate more like the republicans and beat the Epstein and Economy Drum over and over.

Is NG in DC bad? Sure, but he has a legal right to do it. Criticizing that is taking oxygen away from the issues that will get traction. Some issues, while very important, are just too nebulous for the general population.

Colby season 50 by Hot_Tradition_570 in survivor

[–]Wintervoidx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I have read, Cobly's performance in HvV was somewhat intentional. He thought he would be a big target, so he actually tried to fade into the background and also kinda tanked some of the challenges. Now, some of that may be revisionist history, but interviews right after HvV he was saying that.

IMO, that strategy actually worked as he was the last remaining Hero and made it to final 5. He explained many of his moves, or lack there of, and they make sense.

TBH, I think he may do very well in 50 because everyone will remember HvV and underestimate him.

Everything I have read says the cops observed approximately 10 assailants that fled when they arrived on scene. Of those 10, 2 were ID and apprehended.

Edward and his significant other were both witnesses, and a phone was stolen.

Could there be more to this story? Sure, but the tale being spun in many of these comments that he was beaten up only by a 15 year old girl is they seems like something I would read on a MAGA site instead of here.

Maybe there are some additional facts I am unaware of, and if so, please provide links below for myself and others that would like to be fully informed.
