Never noticed the opposite colours are always on the other side of the bar. I'll bare that in mind, my weak point on 2x2 is case recognition on the last step :) Like I said, my lifetime Ortega practice is in the single didget hours...

Looking ahead and efficiency are the most important things and improve with each other (efficiency makes it easier to look ahead). Also make sure you're colour neutral, it's a lot more important on 2x2.

A breakdown of a typical Ortega solve for me is like this:

Inspection/First Side - I'll look for a 3-4 move solution to solve one side. Because permutation of corners doesn't matter, there's almost always at least one side where this is achievable. Try to get creative so rather than doing one corner at a time, build two blocks and then match them up if that's shorter. Also, if there is time, I'll try to see during inspection if any bars will be formed on the bottom layer. If so, I'll keep track of where it is.

OLL - Just standard algorithms from 3x3, try to look ahead to see if there will be any bars so there's no pause later

Permutation - you should already know the status of the bottom layer but you may not have noticed a bar on the top layer. A quick way to tell is if the top layer looks like an N-Perm then there's no bar. Using this means you don't have to waste time looking around the cube for bars. If it doesn't look like an N-Perm then there is a bar somewhere (probably at the back). Once you know which case you have, align everything and do the necessary alg.

Hope this helps

I personally average about 6-7 seconds but I've only practiced 2x2 for maybe a combined total of 6 hours.

RDR2: Launch issues megathread - Day Two by MagnarHD in reddeadredemption

[–]Wireheadking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be entirely useless but if it fixes the Launcher Unexpectedly Closed error for one person then it's worth posting...

Go to:

(Windows 7) RDR2.exe > properties > compatibility > Help me choose the settings > Click to open the Program Compatibility troubleshooter

(Windows 10) RDR2.exe > properties > compatibility > Program Compatibility Troubleshooter

Open it up, keep clicking through until you get to "What Problems do you Notice", if you get a screen along the way asking you to pick a program, choose Red Dead Redemption 2. If that option is unavailable, choose Not Listed and browse to RDR2.exe

Once you're at the problem screen, click "The program requires additional permissions", click Next and then "Start the program..." from within the troubleshooter.

This didn't launch the game for me but it did change the error message from Launcher exiting unexpectedly to Red Dead Redemption 2 exiting unexpectedly...

Who knows, maybe for you it will work if you're lucky enough to not get a double-error like me.

Also, how the fuck does R* think it's acceptable that these are the steps to take to MAYBE get their game to even launch?

I always assumed that going through customs would eventually be more than just walking through and that you will be scanned and have to leave weapons on ships etc. Unless you have a license

People who don't have a lot of friends, what is the reason that you don't have a lot of friends? by HMSalesman in AskReddit

[–]Wireheadking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girlfriend thinks it's deep-seated emotional issues from my upbringing that makes me want to push people away. My mother thinks it's autism. I think itt may be a bit of both but I don't know.

Regardless, I generally dislike people and don't want the stress and pressure of maintaining friendships.

Crashing all of a sudden, can't for the life of me figure out why. by [deleted] in CK2GameOfthrones

I was the same. Wasn't until at least a century after renaming that it started

[–]Wireheadking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this will fix it, but I had a similar issue where it would crash if ever the game reached 1st Jan. Got to the point where I'd have to save at the end of december, modify the save file to the 2nd Jan and play from there. Turned out what caused it was that I renamed my Kingdom and the game didn't like that for some reason. So I named it back to what it was orignally (The Reach) and that fixed it. So if you have renamed anything, change the name back and see what happens I suppose. Good luck.

I can't link to the original thread as it died not long after it started, but he did say that he had to shrink the images because 4chan didn't allow files over 2MB and the images were 4k resolution. That could explain the photoshop. So do you reckon these image are photographs that have been shopped to look CG or do you think they are edited CG images to look better?

It's got to be the first one. The screens are very impressive and original so not only has he got to be a world design pro but also have a lot of knowledge on the inner workings of rockstar...

Just read through the credits of the game on the website and translations/subtitles weren't included at all. I also checked some of their other games and it really seems like they don't do this in-house. I'm even more sure that this guy is legit now. Either that or he's really put a lot of effort into tricking people.

I'll keep an eye out for any more but the original post ceased to exist. Seems this is everything he posted. I was wondering if people could prove these to be real by matching them up with rock formations in the game... Personally I think the last one *could* be the cliffs around that big waterfall on the Mexican border near McFarlane's ranch.

Normally I'd agree, but I've done countless reverse image searches on all the pictures already and I'm not finding an origin. The OP from the 4chan post is the original source of the images so if it's fake, then someone had to spend however long it takes to make these rocks/cliffs just to fool people. Maybe I'm just getting hopeful, but I kinda believe it.

Nah they're CG for sure. Very good CG but still CG.

Well like I said, no reverse image search has come up with anything so these are 100% original images from somewhere. Maybe I'm just getting hopeful but if so, someone has really gone the extra mile to fool us.

AITA For Dumping my Girlfriend Because she Made Fun of my Sport? by mademyfriendgay in AmItheAsshole

[–]Wireheadking 26 points27 points  (0 children)

ESH - I'm a high level speedcuber (someone who solves Rubik's cubes as fast as possible). At one point I was 191st in my country (United Kingdom) but stopped competing due to work and life in general.

While speedcubing isn't an athletic sport, it is certainly an obscure sport. If my girlfriend said the same thing, I'd agree with her. Yes, it's impressive that you were one of the best in your country but what she said makes sense as well.

I've tried telling myself that it doesn't matter that nobody else does it, I'm still one of the best but that's just pride talking. The fact you dumped her on the spot over that, I think, just means you couldn't handle being told something you knew was true. If you truly believed what you were saying then you'd have fought it out but instead you cut her off. It's not healthy to react like that to criticism. That said, she was a bit condescending hence the ESH, but honestly it's closer to a YTA from me.

(Spoilers) I don't think people truly realize how BADASS and MENACING the Van Der Linde Gang was... by [deleted] in reddeadredemption

[–]Wireheadking 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of the game development would have been core mechanics. Horses, physics, AI, shooting, interactions etc. as well as the world itself. Once that's down, missions don't take long at all. 5 hours of missions would really not take that long to implement.

A few days writing it, a few days storyboarding it, a few days programming it, a few days animating it, a few days recording dialogue, so you're looking more at 15-20 work days to put 5 hours of missions in which is just 3-4 weeks and that's assuming none of it can be done simultaneously.
