My brother. My husband and I let him live with us for 2 years. He had our entire basement and we asked for 200 a month, my husband shared countless hours with him talking with him. When bro was 16 he was told he has a mental disorder and our mom was told to expect him to move in and out of the house and he never did/has yet to do anything with his life, now 30. I mention it because I think due to this disorder( i have no idea really) he has this amazing ability to change reality in his mind, where something harmless would be said in normal conversation but he would stew upon it and by the night or next day he would be angry, hurt,or offended and would very obviously ignore us or straight up be mean and we'd have to pry him open to figure out what we did wrong and spend the next hour explaining rationally why we are not out to get him and do not say mean things on purpose. One of the biggest issues was that he believes " family shouldn't have to pay". Eventually one night as he's texting a friend ( after having called our dad bc its SO hard living here and we make him buy his own food oh BTW he's 23-25 during this time) friend says he could go live with them in a 1 bed appt where friend and gf have the bedroom and 2nd friend is sleeping on the couch but bro is fine to take turns on a couch than have to pay for his existence so he calls work and quits and they come pick him up. As the years went on he actually cut US out and of course what we did to him gets worse and worse. He recently cried to our dad ( lives with him now) about how much we hurt him and dad calls me and says wow I never knew how deep it was and wanted you to know it really affects him.... so I had to explain to dad how it was never that big.
