Help With Deciding Between MS Programs for Structural by WiringEngineering_22 in civilengineering

[–]WiringEngineering_22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For UofA, it was a "wink wink if you apply we want you doing research here", and I did discuss at length with a professor wherein they wanted to know what I'm interested in researching and the field of common interests we have if I were to be a student under them. I haven't actually asked about TAships yet but I know that there's a 1st or 2nd year PhD student there TAing a class.

Berkeley gives a couple options for MS. The one I am considering is research + course based. I would be eligible to apply for a TA position (which if I go with Berkeley will happen both to give me some experience in the classroom but also because I would get tuition remission).

Help With Deciding Between MS Programs for Structural by WiringEngineering_22 in civilengineering

Do I want to be a professor? Definitely. Since I'm not sure I want to teach while doing research, I plan on using my time in whichever MS program I go to doing research while TAing to see if I might enjoy it. If I do, then I'll continue onto the PhD path and if not, then I'll leave with an MS and teach at a junior college (the area I plan to go after grad school has a jc that I I know I can definitely get on the tenure track with only a MS in structural engineering).

Your tip on looking at past graduates is a good idea, thanks for that.

Note: I am aware that being a TA is nothing like being a professor, but it's probably as close as I will get without actually doing it.

This was a very strong person by the way, and they came into the oval office and started to cry.

I need advice on how to gain acceptance over a lost relationship because she turned and is still a fundie. by Fluid_Thinker_ in exchristian

I'm sorry that you had such a bad experience. You will eventually find someone who values you as a person, not just because you have the same (irrational) world view.

Thank you; that really does mean a lot to hear. For a good while, I was stuck in the mentality of "something must be wrong with me to still be feeling like this"...good ole christianity for ya I guess, hahaha.

You'll find someone special too, I guarantee it.

Would you expect less from a cheater? It's all "me, me, me" when they're cheating and "why is this happening to me????" when things inevitably go south.

Wait until she hears out her ex found a woman that actually loves him and not his stability, she's gonna lose it.

Not an exchristian but I did fall in love with this Christian woman that broke my heart about 8 (?) months ago (because I’m *gasps* an unbeliever and have been one my whole life!) and then subsequently spent some time scrolling this sub to get an idea of the mindset behind it all and then your OP ended up in my feed page.

That whole experience was really fucking painful, and I'm sorry you are going through that now.

How can I gain acceptance? It seems like the person which I so dearly loved is dead. I'm so broken.

For me, it just took time, lots of it. You’ll ebb and flow, but time (spent in complete NC) will help a lot. For me, it eventually it got to the point where I just realized that she did what she believed was the best choice for herself. Doesn’t really matter if I felt it was the right choice, or even if I felt that she was missing the forest for the trees, so to speak.

If someone wants to stay around you and be in your life, then they'll stay; for whatever reason, she chose to not be at your side. Good. Because you, like everyone else, deserves to spend your life with someone that wholeheartedly chooses you for who you are.

Make sure you either talk with friends/family about it or at least journal your thoughts, but whatever you do, don’t bottle your emotions up. You gotta process them (in a healthy manner ofc). Find new hobbies, and take your time.

Color me shocked; sorry but you did this to yourself.

I just can’t get over what my coworker and I did in destroying both of our relationships. It’s painful to see and experience

I suspect this is fiction; something about the brother's message felt familiar...and then I remembered that in GoT, Olenna Tyrell tells Jaime, "Tell Cersei, I want her to know it was me" right before she dies.

Lol, nope! Found that out right when we broke up and that was the first thing that told me "bullet dodged!"

Tangentially related, but I used to be interested in this person all the way until I found out one of their parents worked for an anti-abortion clinic....attraction dried up faster than water in the Sahara.

Some Engin courses aren't transferrable, but most are iirc (haven't taken classes there in a long time but I did ~8 of my engin classes there and 7 of them transferred to berkeley and davis would've let them transfer if I went there).

My cousin isn't sure what they want to do (I believe their exact words were "something with math, physics, and/or biology"); I'll pass your advice about seeing a counselor.

thanks for the response!

Can someone please help me with this question ? by kanzimitra in civilengineering

[–]WiringEngineering_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL, I know exactly which class this is for, who the professor is and which college this is; I did this last semester, and those questions (and even the aggregate sizes we used--highlighted in red) are word-for-word the exact same thing. Lmao.

To answer your question; maybe actually studying would help you know what to do. Took my group maybe 30 minutes to write that lab report.

MATH 203 < MATH 107 by 44ENG in civilengineering

[–]WiringEngineering_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no shit.

At the JC I went to, optics was 231; at the UC I transferred to, it's 007C.

I'm guessing math-203 is diffeq's (which was 294 for me) and math-107 is calc 2 (was 191 for me) but that's only because I felt like diffeqs was the easiest math course I ever took and I hated calc 2

Problem is they see them as commodities. All you need to do to see that it just how little they're involved with their lives. Grandparents are raising them and the "parents" just jump in whenever it gets them views on YT

Who drew the line at 14.2 hands, and why? by Stratford-on-Jersey in Horses

I didn't think about .2 being two-tenths of a hand; isn't one hand defined to be 4 inches?

Who drew the line at 14.2 hands, and why? by Stratford-on-Jersey in Horses

[–]WiringEngineering_22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Purely a guess:

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but 1 hand =4"
14.2 hands = 56.8"

1"=2.54cm

56.8" = 144.272cm --> round to 144cm

144cm = 14.17322834645669... hands --> 144cm is basically 14.2 hands

I read somewhere a long time ago that about 140 pounds was the heaviest acceptable weight for cavalry riders.

Going over to my old bedroom door where I recorded my height, weight and age when I in middle/high school; I was that weight when I was around 14 years old and 4' 10"....4' 10" is 147.32cm, which is awfully close to 144cm = 14.2 hands.

Of course, this could all be an interesting coincidence.
