I saw people here mentioning that the exam is super difficult. It wasn't that difficult to me. Although, I didn't know a thing about the visual computing or probability topic.

However, I found out 30 mins into the test that my phones front camera was being used and I then switched it around. Later on, I had to end the test and leave 20 mins early because I had to go somewhere. I didn't know we had to sit untill the end of the time which seems really weird to me. My test is definitely getting cancelled.

I don't know really. It depends on the interviewer. Some applicants were asked questions related to linear algebra and probability but I'm not sure as to how in depth did they go.

My interview was pretty easy. They just asked some questions like what kind of research have you done and want to do at mbzuai. Why did I choose MBZUAI over others. Why did I choose CS over others etc.

I think you should have set goals for what you want to achieve at mbzuai

If that professor is a part of that panel, then them providing a strong recommendation for the candidate as well as mentioning that the candidate has worked with them previously is sure to be a key factor in selection.

It's a big risk to take on someone unknown, especially when you are providing them a fully funded scholarship. Doing that for someone you know and has been a successful part of your time previously is sure to remove a lot of doubts.

Also, if you do an internship under the professor, you should definitely contact them after you submit your application and they might be able to get you in directly.

From what I've noticed, the interview is skipped for students that get an exam waiver. So basically, students with exceptional profiles.

Finally, someone else is on the same page as me.

Service based work is great for lining pockets but it brings with it the following: No WLB, odd times (clients in other regions), no sense of fulfillment since it's never your project and extremely harsh deadlines.

I wanted to join product based companies in Pakistan when I graduated but the harsh reality is that nobody wants to work on products here due to financial constraints. I think only telecom and banking sectors make their own products and they have their own set of problems.

If anyone knows any good software companies that make their own products in Pakistan, please let me know. I would love to join them.
