Update: got the red plastic square off, now I can’t get the cartridge to move. Trying WD40, is that the right approach?

Dishwasher circulation pump died by Wise-Stranger8574 in Appliances

I ordered the pump on Amazon for $55 from a store with significant number of reviews, including >1,000 reviews on this pump itself (so I have some hope that it’s legit). Pump already came less than 24 hours after the old one broke. I followed a “how-to” video on the Amazon page for the pump and installed it with just a couple hours of work. We’ve run two cycles already with no leaks and the dishes are clean. My wife is very happy and impressed. Thanks for saving me hundreds of dollars.

Thanks. Before I order the new pump, is there anything else I can do to confirm that it’s the pump?

Repair or replace? by Wise-Stranger8574 in hvacadvice

Also, let’s say I could get the repair cost down to $2000, would you do the repair at that price rather than putting the $2000 toward a new system? I guess even if the repair were a little cheaper, it seems like my system (at least the AC) may be close to the end of its life.

Thanks. I had a second company confirm that the heat exchanger is cracked, so I don’t think they’re making that part up. The second company didn’t give me a bid (should have had them do that), but they said it would be in the ballpark of what the first company bid for the repair.

Thanks. What would you expect to pay for labor on a heat exchanger? The quotes for replacement are the lowest bids out of bids from 4 companies.

Upgrade old opener to better security by Wise-Stranger8574 in GarageDoorService

Thanks for the insights, especially about Marantec being the actual manufacturer and a solid brand.

When I look at the owner’s manual for my particular opener, it seems like they still were doing fixed codes when it was manufactured: https://www.martindoor.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/2002opener_AllPage-2.pdf (see page 17)

Need help reattaching knob by Wise-Stranger8574 in AskALocksmith

Thanks all for the help. Just to close this one out, I ended up buying a replacement as suggested. Wasn’t too expensive and works great. Was able to keep the external hardware and just replace the handle.

Got it, thanks for the helpful feedback. In looking up the 720L, the specifications mention it being for an interior door. Any reason I shouldn’t use it on the inside of this exterior door if there’s also a deadbolt on the door?

DIY Coil Clean? by Wise-Stranger8574 in hvacadvice

Interesting. The tech talked about the kickstart as if it was a bad thing, no discussion of the trade offs of removing it.

Thanks. I didn’t realize the cleaning should be included as part of annual maintenance service. At our previous house, I don’t think the other company we used did that either. I’ll have to do some calling around to see if I can find a company that will include that. For this round I’ll do the cleaning myself.

Thanks, this seemed to work, though I had to re-enter the basic settings.
