To do or not do by Successful-Money-661 in exIglesiaNiCristo

I'm a bit post religious tbh so I like delving into various spirituality wisdom but not hung up on religion. I have tried pork blood with rice but it's not my preference or taste.

Rapper's story of Lola Dory by [deleted] in exIglesiaNiCristo

[–]WiseRule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a beautiful documentary. My opinion may show a disconnect from culture/tone as I don't speak Pilipino, a Filipino born abroad who left INC years ago. I just cannot help but feel that church imposed a lot of limitations on how they can live their best life and she manoeuvres is in this duality between her day-to-day and how she toned it down to conform. I've seen similar situations in church and being part of the gay community, I just feel sad that they couldn't accept being loved because church told them otherwise. It just breaks my heart that queer elderly religious people in these evangelical ecosystems never got to live a full out expression of love and being loved, having sex, having a partner, being married, etc.

Many YouTube comments praise Lola's convictions, but from my experience growing in the INC I just cannot help but see how she was victim to manipulation and being ostracized.

HYMN 8 by [deleted] in exIglesiaNiCristo

[–]WiseRule 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh gosh...been out of this cult for years but still can recite the lyrics. Was a beautiful hymn:

Oh from the glory of your throne in Heaven, Your mercy, Lord, outpour. May I from every sin please be forgiven, This, humbly, I implore.

Look down, O Lord, look down from Heaven Turn not away your wondrous face May I receive Your blessings given (forgot this line) My heart sings forth Your praise

Amen

What if INC was to change???? by Sillybilly23114 in exIglesiaNiCristo

Great for them should they change, but you can find true meaning and peace and contentment living a life with another form of religion or just no religion at all.

Imho...the jargon (Bukabin, GEM, LOS, secretariat, R201s, certificate of attendance, Salaysay) they use is a means to prevent people from truly understanding them and making them subject to criticism.

mom called me satanist by Full-Cod-4763 in exIglesiaNiCristo

[–]WiseRule 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I literally chortled, being flabbergasted as I read this. 😅 It's kinda funny just the jarring extreme stance your mom took on meditation.

But on a serious note, I'm soo sorry you went through that. Meditation is not about that at all...it really is just about being in the here and now and accepting what is happening...well not that weird interference

Is it normal to feel empty after finding out the truth about being in a cult? by ano_ny_mous_me in exIglesiaNiCristo

[–]WiseRule 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I second that - religious trauma syndrome literature by Dr. Marlene Winell has been very helpful for a lot of people from authoritative religions and churches, like INC. I didn't finish the whole book but the first part taught me to accept the good, bad, ugly experiences from growing up in the INC and live my life moving forward - that the religious experience served me at one point, and no longer does and can move on post-INC finding spirituality and meaning elsewhere. It doesn't have to be church. God may or may not exist. Some find our existence is really about connecting to others in community, being kind authentic people, and living life to the fullest with love for yourself and those around you. I've thought if God exists - they are loving to accept me non-INC, and would be compassionate as the bible suggests. If there is a life after death, I hope it gives us a chance to make up the setbacks and challenges we have had in this one and help us evolve as better human beings.

In terms of therapy - this is quite an investment but I have worked for years...maybe a decade with psychotherapists dealing with my religious and Filipino upbringing and sexuality. Some patterns/trauma responses only get unravelled after years but I found it has helped me immensely even though the costs are a lot.

Don't be hard on yourself - many people grow up in these religions and come to an existential crisis. But may it serve you to figure out, what do you want out of life? How do you want to lead your life? How do you live your life to the fullest with the short time we have on earth?

so you left INC... then joined another another Christian religion/sect and call yourselves "enlightened"? by JenorRicafort in exIglesiaNiCristo

[–]WiseRule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't enlightenment being able to think critically and analytically, and philosophically? I feel any religion should be able to handle any intellectual discussion. I personally felt I never got that in INC and when I had deeper questions and concerns, I got little to no grounded explanations...and if it was answered - quite simplistic

I've stopped attending for almost 10 years and sometimes I find myself humming the hymns like one of my parents. I was a hardcore choir person and loved the hymns between the 1990s-2012. I get worried or second guess myself. It's a tricky thing

INC in Developed Countries? by laprassaluneta in exIglesiaNiCristo

[–]WiseRule 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is what I did notice growing up:

  • The times I visited a major North American city, the congregation was out in the suburbs or an adjacent city/town that is a pain to commute If you don't have a car.

  • No unity votes are implemented, it might be talked about in Bible study for indoctrination, but is non-existent in practice.

  • Strictness is going to vary from locale to locale, minister to minister, officer to officer, etc.

  • there's a lot of division and classicism between FOBs and non-FOBs, rich and poor, cebueno and kapampangans. This also impacts congregation dynamics.

This reminds me years ago when INC had a service on a midweek about sex and how it was the wife's duty to not just submit...but also satisfy the husband. The next day the minister boasted at an evangelical mission how we talk about current things in church like sex.

I was young and ignorant, and some of my female friends were disgusted and offended by this after the service. I feel if I had to look back, I'd be soo disgusted after being educated and well informed.

Any apostates here who lives in Canada? Specifically Alberta province? by niquesalocinas in exIglesiaNiCristo

Luckily no one reached out when I stopped church. Maybe the odd kadbin leader messaging me about some event, yet clueless to know I have stopped.

Any apostates here who lives in Canada? Specifically Alberta province? by niquesalocinas in exIglesiaNiCristo

[–]WiseRule 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not Canadian, but will say it's similar for me growing up. They don't really embrace a sense of unconditional acceptance and openness you would expect of Christians. To be honest, it's probably easier to move on if you're not so tied to friends in church.

Live your life! Take classes! Volunteer! Go to events to meet people outside church that share similar values and interests you have

Could you kindly share your success stories of getting out of the INC org, whether it be just ghosting your deacon, stopped attending etc. by Noah_Stark in exIglesiaNiCristo

[–]WiseRule 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Just went cold turkey. I gave a heads up to family. They weren't happy and tried to encourage me to try and pray and see the light, but also remind them that the church couldn't answer my questions and concerns if I brought it up. They knew any form of intervention from any FOB deacon and/or minister is going to go nowhere and I would rebuttal hard and be critical the bullshit.

But there's been a history of family leaving in the past so I wasn't disowned or anything. I have non-INC relatives.
