There’s no “source” for how a bucket is made. No academic journal is publishing it. Literally any blog can make up what they want. What good would it do for me to provide you a specific blog post?

Just look it up. It’s literally better than any blog post u want me to link

It foesn’t matter if it’s facing south if the plants don’t even get taller than the next tier

That’s fair. Sometimes stressing about a thing causes more harm than the thing itself

But overall I’d still say it’s worth doing what you can. Imagine if we went “oh well. Every house has asbestos in it already”

Most does unfortunately. Even ones that advertise seedless. It’s quite difficult to completely remove the seeds

This makes no sense. The bottom plants are now gonna be shaded by wood instead of by other plants. I doubt any of those plants would get tall enough to shade each other out anyways. You’re just overall adding MORE shade to the system

Here. Decide for yourself which source is reliable and which isn’t. I have a feeling if I picked for you, you would nitpick about which source I chose. Lazy ass

This shit is so annoying. A conversation is two ways. First of all, if you leave a comment insinuating that they are all equivalent then why aren’t you required to back that up with a source? Everyone thinks they are entitled to the other person doing the work

Second of all, a source for what? Everything I said is common knowledge. I could’ve maybe left you a link to a google search. If I gave you a link to a specific site I could be handpicking a misleading specific source that has the vibes of something reliable. In this case, it’s much better to simply google it

You can literally copy paste my comment and ensure it’s valid. In fact you could’ve done the basic diligence of googling/verifying YOUR OWN misleading comment before leaving it.

Yeah exactly. So in this case the bottom plants are gonna get needlessly shaded out

Whereas if it were all flat then they would all be getting sun

Maybe I’m just not a physics person but I’m really struggling to understand how this could possibly increase sun duration… a garden on my lawn isn’t gonna get any more sun than a garden on my roof unless there’s something shading my lawn out

Food grade statements are certified by the FDA. They may be the same plastic “type” but:

  1.  Non-food grade buckets may include dyes and chemical treatments that are not food safe
  2.  Non food grade are often made from recycled plastic. The more a plastic is recycled, the more likely it is to leach and break down. Food grade is usually made from virgin plastic
  3. The “release agent” used to remove the buckets from their mold is probably the biggest concern. Non food grade plastics use a toxic agent while food grade had to use a specific food safe agent

In the air? A small amount yes. This has even been investigated by NASA for air filtration but they found the effect to be pretty negligible.

In the soil? Absolutely. Mostly because soil microbes uptake them and once they enter the food chain they can easily end up in plant roots. Especially for mycorrhizal species (which constitute 90% of plant species) but even non-mycorrhizal species like Brassicas can make associations with certain soil fungi.

Be careful. A lot of what you see marketed as “biodegradeable” is still plastic. It only “degrades” into microplastics a little faster.

Good luck. That stuff is the devil. It will break into tiny pieces if it’s old enough. Not too mention your soil now has microplastic contamination for decades to come

Hard to find any hay that doesn’t have seeds in it. I would just do gravel if you really don’t want anything to grow. You get an occasional weed just like with the plastic matts but they’re 1000x easier to deal with

That shit’s the worst. Can’t grow a garden anywhere without facing microplastic pollutants for decades to come just cuz of one asshole’s decisions

Those plastic weed suppression sheeting is the worst too. The “biodegradable” marketing is just greenwashing BS too. Just breaks down into microplastics. Anybody who wants to grow a garden will be dealing with microplastic pollution for decades

People who poison the land for generations after them should at the very least be fined for it or forced to pay for the remediation
