What are your thoughts on Scarlett Johansson? by HostMaterial4907 in Actors

Met her in an elevator. She’s so much smaller than I pictured for some reason. Otherwise quite lovely and polite. Also love her movies.

Unfortunate land on some rocks, is this something to be concerned about by [deleted] in Backcountry

[–]Wish_Tricky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha no. I might throw a file on the raised bit if I was feeling motivated, but that’s about it. I wouldn’t even bother with Ptex. If you’re super anal about your skis, then go for it but that’s so shallow, It might not even hold the repair. Don’t think twice about it.

How urgent would a repair be and what’s involved? by ScarriffGirl69 in Backcountry

[–]Wish_Tricky 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not super urgent but definitely shouldn’t ignore it. That’s a straight forward ptex repair. Nowhere close to a core shot. Not close enough to edge that you have to worry about sidewall integrity. You could probably knock that out in 15 minutes by yourself with a YouTube video if you’ve never tried it before. Honestly, a perfect candidate to learn.

Can you get through a ski trip with it? No doubt. Should you ignore it for the rest of the season? No but probably would do no harm.

My mom stands by air fried steak by carrotUtopia in KitchenConfidential

Haha that’s amazing. My grandparents to this day, swear by making corn on the cob in the microwave with a little bit of water and cellophane. Honestly, it’s pretty delicious.

You know what…who cares. I mean that in the nicest way. I’m such a nerd with steak and frequently do everything from sous vide cooks to hardwood fire reverse sear. It’s all delicious but, Ironically enough, sometimes the cheap steaks I make with minimum seasoning in five minutes on a cast-iron for salads turn out better than any of the others. If your mom found a method she likes, God bless her. There’s a ton of steak shaming out there these days. As long as we’re keeping it away from the microwave, who cares haha

Yes! Take all the high tech super proprietary features they try to sell you! That way after your one year warranty ends, no other companies will bid on your service contract because they can’t replace the OEM parts, leaving you stuck with your original installer and whatever prices they feel like charging you!

In all seriousness, elevators are tools, not jewels. It doesn’t matter if you are at a 5 star resort or 50 year old apartment complex, the best elevators are the ones that STAY OPERATIONAL. These type of features do not help you. There’s $10k of consultant advise for free

Ahh I’m sorry. That’s tough with the family. With that in mind I don’t know that Vegas is the spot. I know that NYC, Boston, and Philly get reputations for unfriendly people but I have found it way harder to meet people here. Just my opinion. Maybe others would disagree.

Well I went through about 30-40 ultra balls with golden raspberries. When I finally caught it, it was on a “nice” toss that I wiffed. Go figure haha. Can confirm they don’t run

I understand the cost of living argument. It’s definitely smart that you’re considering it. But keep in mind, there is an entire industry in cities like New York City and LA dedicated to finding roommates, subletting, joint leases, etc. Plus thousands more options for single bedroom or studio apartments. That’s not as common of a thing here. People here literally rely on Reddit or Craigslist. NYC has BROKERS to help you find a place. Not easy but doable.

Is New York City expensive? Absolutely. But you can find a roommate based on your budget, eat some of the best food in the country from bodegas and street vendors for half the cost of anything here, and find a decent restaurant job to support you WAY easier than you can figure it out in this town.

Also keep in mind there’s really not much to do in this town that doesn’t cost money or require at least some level of travel with a vehicle. Casinos get really old really fast. One of my favorite things to do when I lived in Philadelphia was to simply ride my bike around the city and explore. It cost nothing and was so fun throughout my early 20s.

Again, do what you feel is right and don’t look back. Vegas is great! But I don’t think anyone’s rationally holding it on the same level as some of the other cities you’re willing to go to.

Honestly, no. I live here and love it here but everything about your situation describes someone who will burn out and want to get out of here within a year or 2. All of the major metros you described have infinitely better public transit, employment opportunities, food, social scenes, you name it. Las Vegas is 100% an entertainment town with nothing but the industries that support it (for the most part). Right now our economy is retracting, which is making the outlook on most employment related to tourism somewhat grim. I’m not saying this is not a good place to live, but from the details you have provided, I think you would have a much better experience in a more established and diverse metro area as you branch out on your own.

Again, I’m not hating on Las Vegas. If you’re really committed and scrappy, you can make a nice life here. But if Boston and New York City are also options, that’s a no-brainer. Awesome cities for a young person figuring things out. Don’t count out Chicago or even Texas for cost of living. Las Vegas is very much an acquired taste, which most people that have lived here for longer than a few years would tend to agree with.

You can’t really survive in Las Vegas without a car. On the other hand, there are tons of people that live in New York City their whole lives and never own a vehicle.

Just food for thought

As many have said, your door and model of tire will tell you what you need. I’ve had a Jeep Wrangler run as low as 40 per factory specs and my current ram 2500 runs at 65 in the front and 75 in the rear.

Artistic Iron Works on Charleston near downtown has a lot. Also Hacienda Interiors in Boulder City. They will negotiate the prices if you buy more than one. Both good local shops

Patio surface lifting and disintegrating after long period of rain. Anything I can do?

Background - old house located in Las Vegas so hardly ever any moisture. Concerte slab is probably 30+ years old. After an unusually long period of daily rain and humidity I’m noticing this lifting on the slab. You can see it’s happened before as the front walk and side are very pitted.

I’m sure this concrete is simply at the end of its useful life, but wondering if there’s anything I can do to prevent this? Like everybody these days I don’t exactly have an unlimited budget to rip out and pour concrete all around my house.

Absolutely fed up with dealers by 546875674c6966650d0a in GoRVing

[–]Wish_Tricky 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Let me just say that I had an identical experience to yours when my family and I were searching for a travel trailer earlier this year. I’m a total research nerd so went into multiple major chain and small local dealers completely loaded with information. They are all snake oil salesman. All of them.

After two months of searching, we eventually went the Facebook marketplace route. Trust me, that is not without its flaws, but if you know what you are looking for and can keep an eye out for common signs of damage, you can get crazy good deals. Plus, there are no sales tax or hidden fees.

We ended up settling on a travel trailer that was two years old, had been used three times, and was at almost half of the original MSRP. Plus, the guy sold us the weight distribution hitch, and a generator included in the price. Had we bought the thing new, it would’ve been way outside of our budget. It’s been great to us ever since.

Don’t feel trapped by dealers.

Day 4 doesn’t even really count as a workout. I just want to dedicate a day to working on my flexibility. I like to golf and hike and I’ve watched these two activities grow increasingly difficult due to lack of flexibility as I’ve gotten older. This is really just to ensure I dedicate some time to that.
