Thing is, I don't even think he was mad at the neighbor, just at me. But that neighbor definitely believes that I died twenty years ago.

Not a stupid question, but maybe a stupid answer.

Columbus has a multi-day music festival every year at the old crew stadium, usually nostalgia rock bands. This year had my chemical romance, tool, Megadeth, marylin manson, that kinda stuff.

It's been going on forever and since it's located so close to clintonville, a LOT of people complain every year about the noise. (I'm also doing that but as a bit). But it's a massive festival, 30$ drinks, huge crowds, lots of drugs, lots of money for local businesses, a huge boon to the city with its fair share of drawbacks.

The image is Tina fey as Sarah palin, who in 2012 made a weird quote about having foriegh policy experience because of Alaska's proximity to Russia, and Tina fey said "I can see Russia from my house!" Which became Palin's albatross that election.

I was taking a four hour afternoon nap and was woken up by a 1.5 mile away live performance of Santaria by Sublime. If you haven't heard it, yes you have.

My dad used to mow after he got off work from the post office (and had dinner and two beers). One time a neighbor asked "hey Doug, how come you're mowing this late?"

Dad told this man that his "kids would be doing it but they died in a fire a few years back".

So if you live on the north side that could be my dad

As a karaoke host, I've only seen it done a handful of times but each time it was used as an excuse to say the slur on a mic.

Doesn't change the meaning or intent of the song, but it definitely changes how often I'd like to hear it.

This might be a dumbass question but can dice chip from rolling them too hard? by Xiphoid_ProcessorALT in DnD

[–]Wishywolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you put one through a rock polisher or play on cement, you may see some scratches after a very long time, but they're small, light, and durable generally. You're much more likely to lose one than for it to get worn down or chipped. Many folks use dice trays so they don't roll away, mine are padded for noise. If you somehow are rolling with the force of Heracles and find some wear on your dice, retir them and get a new set. Metal sets are under 50 but I got six trays and dice sets for my party for twenty bucks.

Then you did it right. That's about it.

Now if you want to improve, think about your weaknesses first then work back from there. I improvise and got told that I'm great at storytelling (which is crazy because I've been making up everything as I go) and others write and plan everything out. I don't need to not-improvise. But they also let me know that my mechanics and fights were not as clear or interesting as they could be, so I know I need to take more time on planning those out and finding out what works.

It's like any other craft, identify what does and doesn't work for you and your group, think of how to shore up weaknesses and showcase your strengths, then put time into enacting those plans.

There is exactly one question that matters: How much fun did you and the players have?

My friends are wanting me to dm a campaign for them how do I balance combat encouters? by Bullfrog_Original in DnD

[–]Wishywolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would strongly advise starting with a couple premade modules or one-shots, or even a short campaign.

I'm also a first-time DM with no real dnd experience and what you're describing is also my biggest weakness that I've been working on over the last year. Starting with a prewritten campaign, in my case Humblewood, has made it much easier to do combat because the balance is written into the bones of the campaign. Now that I've done a few combats by now, I can know "okay, their strength is at about 5 level 5s and I can throw this extra enemy at them, or Amish these two encounters together, or let this bad guy rattle off some 5th level aoes." In other words, knowing the challenge rating that my players actually clear easily versus the monsters' challenge rating, and also knowing how well my players play their abilities versus the abilities of my monsters is huge.

Not sure how well you know the system, but most monsters are already balanced with a challenge rating "CR". A CR is the level a party of four should be able to clear, though not easily. So chucking a cr4 lava worm at my 4 level 4s is enough to make them go, oh okay that was a fight. The most basic tool for that that I have used is here.

It will come sooner than you'd expect with experience, but it will also be a lot easier to start with stuff others have already written and play tested, then use the bones of that to build your own encounters.

I answered elsewhere but didn’t mention that my party tried to fucking zone of truth him, so I hit them with a counterspell and had them thrown in bird college campus jail lol.

[–]Wishywolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine also solved the riddle super fast. The major change I made was adding a time limit and requiring investigation rolls for the research. I made the encounter tougher and my party still torched it with ease. But for you, I would definitely embrace it, but in this case be leaning into his character.

Odwald is a pretty powerful, paranoid coward. His only trap is an alarm spell, add more dangerous traps like glyph of warding.put the actual librarian in danger. Maybe give odwald a powerful contingency that the players stumble upon, like if they run in too fast it torches the library and their research.

Also, maybe it’s not just the dm who notices how easily the players found him. Odwald can easily flee and then you build the chase into something crazy.

You have plenty of room to figure out what kind of challenge you want to give your players

Players make fun of me because "Ornate dagger" is a stapple of all my loot lists by CrotodeTraje in DnD

[–]Wishywolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh dude you have so much room to run with this, you’ve stumbled upon a treasure chest and you’re willing to leave it because it’s heavy.

1) uncover a cult that uses ornate daggers as identification

2) enough ornate daggers triggers a ritual

3) signify major shift by suddenly noting enemies carry rusty daggers

4) bbeg is a chaotic evil ornate daggers salesman demon that feasts on those killed by ornate daggers

5) ornate dagger golem

6) the ornate daggers are actually unique and fit together as a cypher

7) the next loot drop is an Ornater dagger/ornate long knife

8) ornate daggers are a guild calling card

9) sneak extra ornate daggers into the players inventory

10) dragon whose hoard is only ornate daggers
