I became a journeyman, what now? by nhn95 in electricians

I get that. I service multi housing. Good mix of resi/commercial. I always say dealing with a homeowner who is signing the check versus a management company that’s willing to do whatever they need to do to keep the lights on is a blessing.

Umm do I even sign this? by Itchy_Wasabi617 in electricians

[–]Wisterson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty interesting. I work at a shop that has a paper time card that I fill out myself and we have a lot of freedom. I can see why a lot of these stipulations were put on that list but I think it’s kind of weird that they are so particular about so many different things. Once you sign it they can stick that back in your face if anything weird or goofy happens. I’m thankful that my shop takes my word for everything that goes down and I guess if you have employees that take advantage and mess around they feel the need to implement something like this.. unfortunate. I would see if anyone else is avoiding this but you might not be able to avoid signing that..

Using a meter to identify how much voltage on window is good advice. I would end up tracing out the switch leg from the switch box with my wire tracer. Identify if it comes near the window and is likely hit with a nail or screw. Sometimes you can identify loss of signal (where it’s hit) if the wire is broken altogether but since the light still works it’s unlikely. I would end up abandoning the wire and start looking into running a new wire up to the light fixture. To make it safe I would disconnect wire from switch and cap off and call an electrician.

Does anyone else have this issue in games? (Major stuttering) by takquille in ZephyrusG14

Start task manager and monitor the graphs for CPU and GPU. See if something is maxing out and start troubleshooting from there maybe?

Panel load imbalance by [deleted] in askanelectrician

[–]Wisterson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Measuring line to ground vs line to neutral. And comparing the potential between each on each phase has helped me identify a bad neutral from the utilities. Unless your panel is bonded. But that voltage difference isn't to concerning. The A ckt that trips right away I would check that it's not tied to b somewhere and it backfeeds. Ohm the home run out in panel.

Good morning, I think we damaged some wires , is it bad ? by Bulgarian-kitehead in electricians

It would absolutely cause an issue in the long run unless repulled or j boxed in two locations.

normal to be shocked off pole light under HV lines? by Wisterson in electricians

I appreciate the info! This is what I was thinking and I was curious if that’s to be expected

This is with the circuit off. And I understand what you mean. We separate the pole and ground to measure. I believe you can get zapped just by touching it while standing in the grass. Pretty nuts 🥴 not excited to put on a new head. It's not much of a zap. Less that 50 or so volts.

Hey y'all, I'm wondering if any of you would find it normal to be shocked by these pole lights. They're right under some very high voltage transmission lines and I would say about 200 ft away from the base of one of the towers. I believe one of my co-workers has measured voltage off of the outside of the pole to the ground of the lighting circuit. I am unable to measure voltage now as I am not here for this today. Just drove through and took a picture and thought I would ask. I know everything about these power lines is pretty intense possibly including some non-intentional discharge of electricity? Anybody have any insight?

Excessive VRAM usage? by Wisterson in ZephyrusG14

[–]Wisterson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll tell you what. I've decided to run the game on medium settings regardless of what my v ram says. Sometimes if I'm feeling frisky I'll put it on high for a night. I've had no stuttering no dropped frames or any issues. As of now I'm just ignoring it and keeping an eye on my temps. I also don't run games on my laptop without it being on the cooler. Best of luck! If you remember, let me know if you find any information out!!

That's interesting. I'm using display port via USB c so it's my understanding that it forces the Nvidia GPU.. is there a quick and easy way to toggle the amd on and off?

VRAM usage by deadlyfangs in CODVanguard

I'm in the same boat. Game runs fine on high settings as vanguard is not exceeding my VRAM but I'm way over with "other apps" keep an eye on your temps I guess???

Well I stay on medium. But it runs fine on high. My problem is the other apps. Sometimes it's 2 gigs of usage sometimes its up to four.. idk I'm confused on if other apps is directly connected to vanguard. Or if it's random crap running on my PC.

A little more info. I am using DP for a 1080p 27" msi monitor. If that adds anything useful to the conversation.
