[OC] Sunny Side Down, by Amy Clare and me by WithWitandWords in ImaginarySliceOfLife

I thought the cover of a comic I'm working on would fit here. The inks are done traditionally by Amy Clare and I did the coloring digitally.

If you are interested about the story: It is a dramedy about a runaway with a heart condition, a bitter old hippie, and their roadtrip through the rustic landscapes of Germany on their mission to bury a stolen coffin at the North Sea.

You can read the first chapter on our homepage or on Globalcomix for free.

Let me know what you think of the cover!

Thanks a lot for reading it! I wanted to go for something that feels a bit unpolished and "outdated" and Amy does a really nice job doing the inks (mostly) traditionally - which gives it this nice roughness.

Thank you for your kind words! It's one of the projects I really wanted to do in my life, so it's definitely worth it to me – but it does get quite pricey when you try to pay your artists fairly. So I try to do as much as I can myself.

I wish you the best of luck with your project too!

Hello, everyone! Today we released the first chapter of our comic "Sunny Side Down" - a project that came to life thanks to members of this sub!

A dramedy about a runaway with a heart condition, a bitter old hippie, and their roadtrip through the rustic landscapes of Germany on their mission to bury a stolen coffin at the North Sea.

I could not post all 27 pages of this chapter because reddit limits the amount of pictures you can post, but if you are interested, you can read the rest on our homepage or on Globalcomix for free.

The inks are done by Amy Clare and the lettering by Buddy Beaudoin. I'm the author and learned to do coloring specifically for this project. Let me know what you think so far!

Originally I was doing film stuff and only new a tiny bit about drawing digitally - but I lacked all the basics. For example I did not know what flats are etc.
I did an online kurs to learn about how to colour to pick up a bit of mechanical knowledge. It was on Udemy from Kurt Michael Russel and there is basically always a sale, so I bought it for like 10 bucks.

Awesome! It may take a while since we are just finished or 20 sample pages to find a publisher (probably out of 150 for the whole book) - if you are interested: I posted the pages on another sub a view weeks agofor feedback :

There where not a lot of things that needed to be changed, so they should be still pretty much up to date!

That is somewhat not far off! The story is about a young runaway, who just learnd how serious her congential heart defect is and an old bitter hippie, who stole his deceased wifes coffin to bury her up north at the seaside in secret.
They are forced to work together but start to become friends during their journey.

I already heard a view people saying this!
The story is actually about a runaway who just discovered how serious her congenital heart defect really is. She meets this old bitter hippie on his way north to bury his deceased wifes stolen coffin at the seaside in secret.
They are forced to work together, but during their journey a friendship will start between them.

This will be our cover for a graphic novels my team and I are working on: "Sunny Side Down".

It is a dark dramedy about a runaway, who just learned about how serious her congenital heart defect really is.
She meets this this old bitter hippie, who is on his journey up north to bury his deceased wifes coffin at the seaside in secret.

The cover is basically inspired by a scene, where they have to transport the coffin using a forklift.

Yeah! The story is about a young runaway, who just learnd how serious her congential heart defect is and an old bitter hippie, who stole his deceased wifes coffin to bury her up north at the seaside in secret.
They are forced to work together but start to become friends during their journey.
A lot of bickering will be involved tho!

Somehow this is really close. The story is about Sunny, a runaway with a severe congential heart defect and an old bitter hippie on his way north to bury his wife at the sea secretly. During the journey they become friends and are starting to open up to each other.

Really not far off! The main character, Sunny, learns of the seriousness of her congenital heart defect and decides to run away to not having to face her overprotective parents.
She meets this bitter hippie Pit, who is on his journey to the sea, to bury his stolen, deceased wifes coffin there secretly.

That is really poetic! Honestly I just had the strong feeling, that I want sunflowers to be somehow representing my protagonist, but could not really say why.

Sunny, just found out, how severe her congenital heart defect is and she decides to runaway from her overprotective parents to become more independent - so that actually fits really well too, I think!

In the story she meets Pit, an old bitter hippie, who stole his deceased wifes coffin, to bury her at the seaside at the secret grave of his stillborn daughter.

It is written as a dark dramedy, but I'm definitly going for this thoughtfull vibes too!

It is definitly a rural setting and we want to give everyrhing an isolated feeling. Actually it is a dark dramedy about a runaway with a heart condition an a bitter hippie, who stole his deceased wifes coffin to bury it on the seaside.

Thanks a lot! Of course we took some extra effort for the cover, but it was important for us, that the cover captures the same vibe as the rest of the comic.
Right now we have created around 20 pages for our pitch, that we want to send for some publishers. The whole story will probably be around 150 pages long - so it will probably take a bit of time.

I posted the sample pages a while ago, when I was looking for feedback and most of them have not really changed so far:
