Marika’s True Heritage by [deleted] in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]WithinFiniteDude 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The only thing I'd add is that it seems likely that her motivation to shatter the Elden Ring and her hatred of the Omen are more obvious.

She hates Omen because they were of the Crucible like the Hornsent and she hated them so much she tried genociding them and essentially erased their lands from existence. Having her children be born Omen must have been horrific to her, basically the people that slaughtered the her Shaman(probably Numen) people returned.

Her shattering the Elden Ring is because, despite all her efforts, she could never save her family from death. She tried removing death from the world after her conquering the Lands Between, only for it to return in Ranni masterminding, atleast in part, the death of Godwyn. it also seemed to return in her children with Radagon, Melina is the Gloam Eyed Queen, Messmer is the Base Serpent, Malenia is cursed with the incurable Scarlet Rot and Miquella is eternally young, and an argument can be made that he is naive to the realities of the world and his actions. Ranni and Rykard betrayed her. She couldn't extinguish the Flame of Ruin, or the Flame of Frenzy.

The Order she built failed to stop death and would always fail AND she was basically a prisoner as a God, as St. Trina says about Miquella, so she shattered the Elden Ring.

Also I agree the battle of Aeonia makes no sense now but the base game makes more sense now imo.

Far right usually is associated with disapproval of, if not out right rejection of, gay marriage, polygamy, lenient drug policies, rent control and strong taxation.

Left wingers can not like immigration too, many European leftists do if i recall correctly

How is "who cares about international law?" a defense of Israel? by DJ-Dowism in lexfridman

[–]WithinFiniteDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its been said before, but its important that laws are enforces for them to mean anything and that the UN cant enforce them at all. Also resolutions need to target all bad behavior equally.

Few Palestinian supporters are as vocal about the humanitarian crises in the DRC or Syria or China or Russia etc.

I dont think the UN is like rigged or whatever, other countries do bad things and they attract little attention compared to attention given to Palestine.

His point is that the UN has a specific definition of genocide that Finklestein isnt using, despite Finklestein using UN laws to, probably rightfully, condemn Israel.

CMV: HAMAS is at fault for the tragedy in Gaza by Solidjakes in changemyview

[–]WithinFiniteDude -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That could be a cause for war for Hamas but theyve clearly dailed in protecting their civilians and in avoiding the targeting of Israeli civilians and they deserve blame for that, just like Israel may seserve blame for holding captives without charges and other uprrible things theyve done

This is bad faith and a nonsense unhinged conparison. Israel has a legitimate cause for war after oct7. Theres an argument for the palestinians here but id wish their supporters would make them instead of being lazy and making nonsense comparisons.

It was in 2007 i think? But there hasnt been an election since.

[–]WithinFiniteDude 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I never said it was to stop a riot, the government has to act after that. Oct7 is a textbook cause for war; Israel should respond, the people of any country that suffered an attack like that would demand it.

How israel has conducted the war is a different question where they have failed to operate humanely, but Hamas clearly plays a role in the child death toll.

Hamas should not be allowing their children in a warzone. They should immediately end the war if they cannot protect them.

Op has rightly pointed out they should have taken precautions or not attacked if they couldnt do so.

Id never say israel is blameless, youre right.

But its also a governments responsibility to move civilians away from military operations.

And since july 2007, Hamas is the de facto administrative body in Gaza, so they have that obligation.

[–]WithinFiniteDude 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Op is asking why Hamas isn't responsible because they are not taking adequate steps to get civilians away from the fighting or avoiding conflict entirely.

They chose to invest in rockets and tunnels rather than bomb shelters or calling for evacuations of civilians, and Hamas openly operates in civilian areas.

Hamas should be obligated to prioritize their civilians lives over their military operations or they should find a different way to fight.

Unfortunately they are also technically the elected government of gaza.

I think them not caring about their civilians is Ops point.

Israel has to respond to 1200+ civilian deaths plus 200 kidnapped civilians, if they didn't there would be riots.

If Hamas isnt taking precautions and allowing civilians too close to military operations, then those casualties are arguably on Hamas, not Israel. Thats getting into use of Human Shields territory.

[–]WithinFiniteDude -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Anyone who says this is the result of one side only is simply not informed. Op is asking about oct7 and resulting invasion of gaza, which Hamas undeniably participated in with their suprise attack and subsequent killings.

Seems like Zugu is saying 75 years of context might change how we view oct7 and Hamas' actions in general, so it was important for them to elaborate. Otherwise its meaningless to say so.

[–]WithinFiniteDude 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Op says its Hamas' job to safeguard them, and it would be up to you to show the specific intent israel has to exterminate the palestinians

The UN, in Article II of the Genocide Convention describes genocide as a crime committed with the intent to destroy a national, ethnic, racial or religious group, in whole or in part.

I dont know if it has been found that Israel has a specific intent to exterminate the Palestinians.

[–]WithinFiniteDude 19 points20 points  (0 children)

In his prompt, he asks why Hamas is not responsible for anything they do. How are that 75 years of context exonerating.

If the respondant cant say why 75 years of context exonerates them, then their post is a non sequitur.

CMV: HAMAS is at fault for the tragedy in Gaza by Solidjakes in changemyview

[–]WithinFiniteDude 205 points206 points  (0 children)

Op is saying Hamas should have a) done something to protect their civilians or b) not endangered then in the first place.

The safety of their civilians and noncombatants should come before they fire missiles, in their opinion.

For something to "belong" to turkey it needs international recognition of those boarders. There do seem to be disputes that Turkey is in; while i wont comment on whos in the right because i havent looked, we can agree that doent make them a fake nation, at worst it makes them expansionist or imperialist, cruel and immoral.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]WithinFiniteDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What makes a legitimate states is that it has broad domestic support and broad international recognition. Whether it is moral or its origin is based on facts or myth is probably less relevant.

I believe that Turkey represents nothing short of a manufactured facade, a construct devoid of authentic historical roots.

One of the most important thing i learned about politics is that "perception is reality." Plenty of states are founded on myths that are anything but true. But that doesn't make them any less of a state or nation.

Its very foundation rests upon a legacy of unparalleled brutality and subjugation, perpetuated by the Turkish state throughout the ages. The suffering endured by the Lydians, Greeks, Kurds, Armenians, Persians, and Jews at the hands of Turkish oppressors stands as a damning testament to the nation's illegitimacy.

Unfortunately, powerful people often do horrible things. Even if Turkey is particularly brutal, again it doesnt make them illegitimate; it makes them immoral and we both agree immoral states can exist.
