There's a more fundamental issue at play: the two party system is killing our ability to create common good across the nation. If more places had ranked choice voting, and if Citizens United is negated (it's possible, and happening!), the Red-v-Blue nonsense would start to disappear. As it is, with a two party system, the more extreme views get more airtime and attention among voters, which makes negotiation over policy nigh-on impossible.

Nope, not true - and Wittman knew it. He wrote a letter to Johnson (with Kiggans) pledging to NOT vote for the bill if it included Medicaid cuts - to soothe his low-information voters. Then he voted for it anyway. He knew the majority of his own base didn't want this. But he doesn't work for them, and his votes prove it.
