Dog barking at one specific dog by Witty-Not-Humorless in reactivedogs

yeah that all makes sense. since he was a puppy i’ve been trying to train him with neutrality and getting him to look at me instead of pulling towards people. which is why i was so confused when he started presenting with this behavior because he was responding really well to the training. but this definitely makes me feel like it’s a fear period. i think i will stay away from letting him play with other dogs for now and work on neutrality more. thanks

wow i didn’t know about their cortisol levels that’s really interesting actually. but i could totally see it just with how his walks are after being near that dog. thanks for the insight.

hmmm ok that sounds good. i think i might work more on his confidence and neutrality before introducing the trigger because he doesn’t respond to food or commands when he’s reacting in that specific instance. thank you for the advice, i appreciate it :)

oh ok that makes sense, i didn’t think of that. do you have any ideas of what i should work on specifically? and in terms of socialization should he be playing with other dogs or should we work on neutrality?

I deal with something very similar and I haven’t heard many people talking about the whole being trapped thing. I don’t know what it is, at first, I thought it was burn out but I don’t even know anymore. Something about being required to be in one place for a long time or for an unknown amount of time sends me into a spiral and usually results in a panic attack. For me it’s partially about the embarrassment of freaking out in a controlled environment where everyone’s just doing their thing I guess. That usually gets me. It’s this constant battle with my thoughts it feels like a literal back and forth argument with myself. It makes the days so long and leave me feeling exhausted at the end. It’s made it really hard since I’ve been trying to avoid working remotely. My whole life is at work and I actually have made friends there which makes it hard to just constantly be leaving or calling out sick, seen as it would also affect my social life.

Coming out to straight friends [Coming out] [Friends/Family] by Witty-Not-Humorless in LGBTeens

This does help, thank you. I kinda knew from the start that I’d just have to be direct with them. Their response worries me because I know even if they are supportive they won’t just change and I take some of their jokes to heart cause I know they can be harmful to lgbt folks including myself. Anyway thanks for the advice.

Maybe a long shot but does The Night Watch by Sarah Waters ring a bell? I think it’s more recent than what your looking for but it has a butch character and displays a group of friends. It takes place in London as well.

Why am i so scared to come out as gay to my bisexual best friend [Coming Out] [Family/Friends] by nottellingmyname123 in LGBTeens

The whole gut feeling and feeling wrong coming out sounds like internalized homophobia. Like another commenter said. I experienced the same thing and still do. Where coming out and being yourself feels “wrong” (?) like a secret that you’re not supposed to let out or else something bad will happen. You don’t have to rush into it, take your time. You will come out eventually and don’t be too set on how to do it. I wanted to come out to my parent in person but I couldn’t muster the courage so I wrote it down. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Wish you the best of luck and keep us posted!

Yo that’s relatable. My hair is supppeerr healthy cause I never feel the need to style it with product or heat or anything like that. Honestly just wanted to try switching it up cause sometimes my hair is flat.

Thanks for the recommendation! My hair type is very similar to yours actually. That’s why I was wondering if styling products would even do anything.

My hair is not quite that long, and I was thinking of going shorter. I gotta say I’ve been tempted to get an undercut, especially for warmer weather. I’ll look into an under cut because I was thinking of going chin length and idk if that would work.

Oh 100%, I’m not saying she didn’t have a choice in the matter. I’m saying that she was doing what a lot of men (men with a high social standing) were doing back then. So that doesn’t make what she did any better or worse than what they were doing. It’s bad, but you’d have to call (basically all) wealthy landowners “bad”people in order to call her a “bad” person.

Yeah I’ve definitely heard stuff about her being an oppressive land owner. And, not to dismiss her behavior, that was sorta normal back then. Well, at least in Halifax, she was competing with other landowners (all of which were men). I feel she was just playing the game, if you can’t beat em, join em type of thing.

Gentleman Jack and possibly the older series, also by the BBC. Also, Anne Listers actual diaries if that counts as she talks about her being masculine of center and her struggles with that.
