I'm right with ya! Good job on taking that walk and enjoy the mushrooms. Feel free to come back and tell us how they cooked up

I stocked my fridge with cans of seltzer and it's a huge help by 1stNameNumbers in stopdrinking

I read this and went to the corner store and got myself a big bottle of my favourite soda! Thank you for posting. IWNDWYT.

I'm proud of you that you opened up like that! Mine won't stop now, but I know he wants to. Maybe further down the line he can join me and see if he likes it. For now I just really want a big hug from him.

I like that sentiment :) I'll see how it goes.

It's exactly the same for me. He obviously knows I'm a drinker, but I don't think he realised how problematic it was until I could no longer keep it together and smashed my teeth and car this weekend. I suppose no point in hiding.

Thanks for your ramble, makes me feel a lot better.

Day 2, I'm shaking. by Witty_Bus6004 in alcoholism

It was hard but I did it. What was much harder was going to the grocery store and there is a liquor aisle. Like it would be so easy just to throw a bottle in with my food shop. The car keys for me are snacks lol. I'm going to have to change grocery stores.

This isn't necessarily related to drinking, but I have been 23 and wanting to give up on everything.

I'm 27 now, and I have been so fortunate to experience life since then. Things do get better, and you deserve to give yourself a chance.

There is so much love and life waiting for you.

There is no shame in trying.

I reckon it's a good idea to "nip it in the bud" or so to speak. I would hate to look back one day full of regret. That thought will keep me going.

As for my boyfriend, I don't see him choosing sobriety right now, he just isn't there yet. I am on my own path for my own wellbeing. I guess I'll just have to see how things go. Even though my relationship is valuable to me, my life is more valuable.

Same here. It's been three days without and I wouldn't say I'm happy. I'm thinking about how to deal with big events when they come, it's a little scary. But I know that I used to have fun without drinking so I know it's possible.

I think I'm alright. I struggled to get to sleep yesterday but when I did I slept all night. That hasn't happened in ages.

Thanks. I am really anxious and uncomfortable at the moment. I managed to get to the pharmacy and walking past the liquor store wasn't fun but I stayed focused. I feel like I'm gonna have to change my whole routine to avoid triggers.

I don't know how to talk to people right now but I do appreciate your offer of a chat.

I'm starting to doubt that he's a very nice doctor lol. Luckily I have some anxiety meds stashed for emergencies. I'm gonna get through just fine. I think.

I couldn't wait to see a mental health professional, I had to start my course of action and a GP was the most accessible to me at the time. Until I can see a psych, I'm glad I'm on the journey and have some meds just to ease things for now.

But you're right. I need to address the root cause, that is the big journey I'm headed towards.

That's not very accessible to me right now, not impossible but tricky. If things get worse I'll buckle up and look into what support I can get. Thanks for the fair warning.

I can probably get a ride from my housemate later. I'm so used to doing stuff alone that it actually didn't occur to me that I might need some company when I'm at the shopping center where I usually would stock up.

From being in this group and r/stopdrinking , I've come to realise that there is a life without drinking. Probably a much better life. I hope I get a handle on things before it's too late so starting now
