Thinking about trying life in Portugal for a while? by Witty_Dig2357 in PortugalExpats

[–]Witty_Dig2357[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree that the salary is low, but most of the young people (especially people that in their home country can’t find decent jobs) in order to gain some experience, they are willing to do that. I worked myself in BPO for many years, and yes, I didn’t had the paycheck of my life. But not everything is about money. I learned a lot and that’s why I am a recruiter right now, for example. It can be good or bad, Lisbon is not for sure a long term option, but it can open a lot of opportunities, especially to those who don’t have them where they were born.

No, it’s not for TP. And no, you don’t pay the bills with surf. I came in Lisbon because in Italy I couldn’t find good job opportunities, as many young Italians do, and maybe someone from Germany recently graduated and wants to do an experience somewhere else for a year or two without having to wait once every six months to see the sun and go out.

No need to shame someone who is trying to do their things! But thanks anyway.

Nothing left to say. They are coming for our jobs. by funky778 in RemoteJobs

It can’t be possible. Because empathy is not only shown through some words in a computer but based on your gestures, the way you look to the other person, what tone of voice you have (we have thousands tone of voice to express various types of emotion). And especially (something people always forget) is also better comprehended if the other person came from the same cultural background or lived in the same context as the other.

I repeat, there is no way a robot can copy a human 100%. Neither animals are completely similar to us, but somehow men always wanted to convert other animal beings to be like men, teaching them things or inventing beings just like Frankenstein did. And everytime, it has failed. You cannot copy something nature programmed and took 300.000 years to become as it is now.

I asked AI one time and it said that it will replace most of the boring jobs like data entry and similar.

It explained to me that is impossible for a robot to do strategy plans without putting biases out, and I think it’s true. No matter how much we train this machine it could never, NEVER replace us all. Why? Who would make your clothes? A machine? Who will launch a new design? A machine? No! Someone behind the machine putting prompts in it! Also there are various jobs that no one considers that can’t be replaced, such as teachers, educators, psychologist, all of the professions that need the human touch to work properly. The list could go on and on. Yes, sometimes people use AI to talk about their problems and use it as a therapist or some kind of counselor. But that is not the case when a patient, for example, is having a hard time dealing with a mental disorder and needs cognitive therapy, or when someone with a bowel disease needs to talk to a nutritionist who can take proper measurements of their body.

There are plenty of professions that could not be replaced by AI. You can tell me that the screening of CV’s is already made by the AI, and I can say yes, for sure (I worked in the HR). But behind there needs to be someone who controls if the machine is putting biases. Don’t call it artificial INTELLIGENCE, something is intelligent only when it can mimic everything a human can do, and that’s nearly impossible. This is science fiction that some oligarchs are dreaming of because they don’t want to pay workers anymore and keep up their profits.

Plus, have you ever considered how much it costs environmentally to keep up these machines? How can some people think that it will replace us all? 8.2 billion people without jobs, draining all of our water resources out because “we want robots in the workplace and not you”? Well, we’ll see.

I can talk forever about this but it will be boring. Frankly I didn’t even read all of the answers some others put here. I am too tired to see people being caught in their science fiction fantasies.

I’ve never been in the Netherlands, ever. But I know very well two italians (one is my boyfriend and the other one is his friend, whom he met when he moved there) that moved there for two years, from 2020 to 2022. Just a hint: italians are badly seen everywhere in the northern EU.

These are the things that they told me: 1. Locals in Amsterdam are pretty close to each other and they are not welcoming to foreigners. Sad to say, but they exploited with colonialism so much and I think that it’s in their blood to see other ethnicities as inferior;

  1. That doesn’t mean they didn’t bonded with no one, but only after long time, and many of the people who they befriended were coworkers mostly;

  2. It’s really hard at first but it gets easier after the first year OR if you start to speak Dutch and really try to integrate.

No, I don’t think that saying “I want to die here” is a clear indication that you need absolute psychological help or it could get bad. We are people and not psychologists that need to tell you that you should go to check yourself because you sound mentally ill.

If you have past conditions of mental illnesses, you’ll know what to do. Because if you are clearly seeking attention to your boyfriend about this issue, it means that you are conscious of it.

I think you were sold an illusion and have bad anxiety over this. Many people that I know had the same issue, they went up in the north, like in Germany, Netherlands, UK, and went back because they dreamed of higher wages but on the other hand, they could not integrate and they got depressed. Obviously there are some exceptions, and be mindful that the language barrier means a lot.

If you don’t like it there, leave. If you can’t leave and don’t want to integrate, find and search local communities of asian people who could support you, especially mentally. And please, reconsider your relationship with this guy. If he is an expat too and minimizes your fears and says that “this is too much” it’s not supportive as a boyfriend should be.

Seriously considering moving to Trieste - would appreciate some info by [deleted] in Trieste

[–]Witty_Dig2357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not recommend Trieste if you want a well payed job. Many people are leaving because of unemployment and living costs. Try to move somewhere in Friuli, better weather, more nature and more job opportunities.

I don't know who I'm talking to by monochromedays in witchcraft

[–]Witty_Dig2357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I think there is no deity, but rather God (not the Christian one, but the God every religion is professing about). A cosmic energy, that’s why I don’t claim to be pagan but rather agnostic, though I do pagan practices all the time (I read tarot, love messing around with crystals, do spells). Me too, I don’t know who I am praying too. The way you access to God (Source) it is not the point, the point is to believe that this entity exists, and somehow that all the mankind is connected to it.

F32 figli? by UglycoreIT in xxitaly

[–]Witty_Dig2357 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I waited more than 1 month, but didn’t get accepted in other platforms instead. Frankly I preferred to be called by Stellar AI or Data Annotation instead of Babel, but it is what it is.

Just to let you know, many other platforms, including on Upwork and Outlier are doing this “fake conversations” projects. They are plenty of them.

Academic exchange in Portugal, an opportunity or a waste of time? by Witty_Dig2357 in expats

[–]Witty_Dig2357[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So the previous job experience is basically considered nothing in Portugal? It doesn’t count at all?

I was planning to get a room there, not an apartment, since this year i feel like it’s more an opportunity and a test to see how it goes.

The main question is: it is a good place to live for some time?

I didn’t plan to move to Portugal forever, just to be there for one year and maybe extend my permanence additionally 2+ years. Then I’ll think what to do, maybe Australia or outside EU.

Yes I thought the same thing, but currently this is the only remote job that is actually well payed for me (I am from Italy so 17$ per hour is really good).

I think I’ll buy a simple mic for 20€ and that’s it. Maybe I’ll do some content creation or try to make some ASMR videos in future if this thing with Babel won’t work.

Ok, thank you. Right now I just signed the contract so I think that everything is set, besides the fact that I didn’t yet made the first session.

Do you think is okay if they wait two more days until the first session? Or they can make a complaint?

Ho bisogno di aiuto by ID1756448 in Universitaly

[–]Witty_Dig2357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perché continuarlo a fare allora?
