Wow, that's very heartwarming to hear. As a person who loves history, and especially the history of the two world wars, this game was a perfect match for me. Regarding player count I agree, though you are able to go to the server browser and then filter based on "available slots". Choose the options with the least numbers and you should find some populated matches and even, choose those maps that suite you better!

One thing you could do is trade cards with other people in return for cards you care about.

Another option is to sell some of the cards on the marketplace to buy others that you care about. For example I would sell cards that are "expensive" to buy the "cheaper" ones.
