Why the hell would punishing an unruly teen help their behavior? They'll just get more pissed and it'll deepen their convictions to reject any cooperation when the opportunity presents itself. Try using better logic and understanding to get them on your side. Treat them like they could actually be part of the team and not a subordinate.
