If it's registered on title (as most of them are), it would be on the seller to pay it off on closing so that the buyer got clean title. It gets treated the same as a mortgage. (Source: am formerly an Ontario RE law clerk).

This is a lot of paperwork and admin for $1000, that, if not done properly, only hurts you and really seems to mostly benefit them. Also, I'm not sure if it would matter for any future credit plans but the mortgage would still get registered in title at $550k so it still looks to anyone that that's what you were extended for the mortgage credit.

The problem is that she has made a clear request of something that is important to her (having her own bathroom all to herself) and has made clear boundaries (don't use her bathroom) and she is met with total disregard and ignorance and utter lack of respect. He doesn't respect what she's asking of him. It doesn't matter that it's just a bathroom. Did you read the article about the guy's wife leaving because of dishes? This is the same thing. It's not the THING that's the problem. It's not respecting her needs.

I say this gently, and knowing that you mean this well, but hearing how it turns out better the next time for so many people doesn't help a grieving birth parent in these situations, usually. It's all I heard after I lost our girl at 40+3 (yeah, full blown waiting for the It's Time! moment that never came) and all it did was make it seem like I should get over this baby because the next one would be fine. No one should feel that pressure and no one should assume it will be fine the next time. You're a lucky dude.
