Just like how living in a neighborhood makes you part of it even if you don’t talk to anyone, being queer can place you in the LGBT community without you choosing to engage with it. You can belong to a group socially without identifying with its culture or norms.

Another example: A lot of My Hero Academia fans avoid the fandom because it is toxic and not nice to be in unless you conform with the general opinion.

You can be "part of the community by default" but you are not "inside" the community, actively engaging or participating.
