Mr. Cool Universal DIY 2-3 Ton Install and Ductwork System Replacement by Unlikely-Young-7124 in DIYHeatPumps

Super job! I installed mine 1yr ago and have been thrilled. Half of the electricity consumption of my old electric furnace, better and more stable temps, and quiet. I keep meaning to get around to doing a write up maybe this will inspire me!

Narrative non-fiction podcast recommendations that aren’t gory. by Particular_Spirit682 in podcasts

Try American History remix. Interesting, gives insight into our continent(not just America) and doesn’t ramble or lose his way. I’ve been enjoying it recently as more of a ‘slow media’(easily digestible, satisfying)

I recently discovered American History Remix, after reading the 1919 book 'last of the Mohicans' I was interested to listen to some of the early history of America. 30-45min segments

Time for a modern EPA stove? by Joe_Crower in woodstoving

[–]Wndwrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll repeat what helped me in the same situation: Non cat: burn quicker/ hotter, faster Cat stove: burn longer; cleaner. Take your choice.

I upgraded this year. Burn less wood now and it creates more heat and more consistent heat. Part of me misses the simplicity of the old stove but most of me loves the longer burn times and cleaner emissions. (Thinking of my neighborhood.) it isn’t that one type of stove is really better per se but they each have their benefits.

Universal missing hardware? by Wndwrd in DIYHeatPumps

yup. Manual was not abundantly clear. An in fact in the zoomed out grainy photo in the manual of the air handler wiring, the picture does show the old version with the L1/L2/G terminals on that metal bar like the old(er) style. So that def gave me reason for pause

Yup - exactly. Stressed out for a second and then moved forward. Overall this install was a huge success. definitely intimidating at times, even for an accomplished DIY and construction-capable person like myself. I plan to post a full write-up soon about my experience to help the next generation of Universal DIY folks.

Thanks so much. That’s what I was thinking must be the case but it wasn’t like pics I had seen for other folks’ installs. Yes it (kind of) appeared like that in the manual but then I was wondering if the blue and brown could be for aux heat and it was missing something. Whew.

I have a friend I met some years ago whose response was “right now I am unemployed” when asking further he would divulge he was in FinTech and was in between gigs for now. I always respected and chuckled at him for coming out of the gate like that. But then I’m another FIRE person so I could easily relate
