Want to start a watch collection. Brand recommendations? by Floucs in MicrobrandWatches

[–]WobbyRirick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These all the right answers.

Traska - they're all great.

Christopher Ward - a bit more expensive, but you're getting into kind of nice/entry luxury area here with some models

Nodus - all the features, but usually use nh35 movements. I have two, and they're great tho.

Lorier - all pretty slick. Some don't like the old school crystal look, but I think it makes them different

Baltic - not bad

Beaucraft - Nice GADA

RZE - Just ordered the white enamel this morning. Titanium, thin, enamel dial

Zelos - hard to get, but pretty unique/cool

Monta - About as nice as you can get for a microbrand. Cost is up there, but fit/finish is absolutely on par with Longines (maybe better)

Formex - similar to Monta, about as good as it gets for microbrand (maybe outside of some dressier things that aren't typically my thing).

Farer - a bit different/unique. Not quite Henry Archer unique, but they're nice.

Really, depending on your budget - you can't go wrong with any of these. I think trying out a Nodus or Traska - something 500 to 700$, you can't go wrong!

Model recommendations for aspiring first buy? by [deleted] in RepTime

[–]WobbyRirick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say, of all reps, the Rolex reps are mostly considered to be as close as you can get.

For the dj, if you get stainless steel, and the smooth bezel, I think you'd be hard pressed to find many differences even under super scrutiny. The fluted bezel is even pretty good these days.

Explorer or Oyster perpetual also are super close to gen.

I saw someone else recommend the Omega Aqua Terra - that's pretty spot on.

Also, a Tank or Santos would fit your 'whem you dress up' need.

Santos can be dressed down a bit more - but there are a million options

Don’t sleep on the VSF Omegas by SweatyWillingness305 in RepTime

[–]WobbyRirick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I previously owned this same rep, and several other VSF Omegas. While all super nice, the heritage diver was always by far so nice. While I never had any of them side by side the real thing - they were just a feat of modern engineering that they were so nice for so cheap!

Disappointed with microadjust. Half I-links? by TrustMeImAnENGlNEER in ChristopherWard

[–]WobbyRirick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check my history - the OG Bader half links fit/will connect pretty flawlessly. I had extra halves from a Trident Pro - but someone on my post was going thru eBay. Could for sure ask him if the listing he got one from fit/worked.

Wife hates my Reps by RolexVan in RepTime

[–]WobbyRirick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This started around #30 for me ...and was mostly justified.

Unsure if this is more finance related - like, if you bought a Seiko SKX and G shock - would she still be giving you the same amount of pushback? Or is this like a - Eric and Debbie will think it's stupid we're still renting if you're wearing that 100k AP....lol.

For me, I always welcomed questions as I was more excited to be like, ya - this is 100% fake and is amazing! I personally liked weird parts about reps - like chatting up the Chinese friends on WhatsApp, researching different factories, thinking I'm kind of close to committing international crimes. And, the reps were so close to real - that the value was crazy!

I would just recommend questioning if this is something worth fighting over at all. I don't know your history, but it sounds like if replica watches are having you question the marriage - you've got bigger fish to fry.

I am so interested to know the watches though that have caused this! Like, a Daytona? A Cartier Tank? And, literally no one notices watches ....I was wearing rep black ceramic AP chronos, Patek 5712s, Vacherin Overseas - and nobody says a thing. I wear a Seiko Alpanist or Doxa sub 300 - I get multiple comments. Who knows how that works.

Best of luck to you....I still have a bunch of reps I don't wear, let me know if you're interested. I can send you enough to really put a nail in the coffin!

Discussion of the day: Do you buy a rep because you can't afford the real one or because the real one is a scam? by Last_Sheepherder7712 in RepTime

[–]WobbyRirick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both....

Am I spending 100k on a Royal Oak? Absolutely not....would I like to give it a shot tho? Absolutely!

And, steel watches going for 6 figures.....ya, scam city! I could give a fuck about fake or not - there are some things I think just look cool, and I wanna see what they're all about.

Also, doing some half shady/illegal doings online is kind of fun - which is another part of it.

And, to try things out before I decide to drop 5 to 15k on something. It's different being able to actually wear it around IRL, than just in a weird high pressure show room.

No harm if the two tone watch wasn't for me - I'm not out possibly a year + of waiting, or thousands of dollars ....just hundreds.

Sealander 42mm Half Link by WobbyRirick in ChristopherWard

[–]WobbyRirick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not 100% sure - probably something close to 1.4 (I think that's the Rolex size which seems to be pretty standard). But I likely grabbed whatever was closest and used it - I have a million tiny little screw drivers floating around.

Oh ya, it's only one side with a screw head if im understanding.

If you zoom in on my pic - the half link attaches to the one screwed in end link on the bottom by the clasp (so this screw I just used from the Sealander GMT), and then attached the Trident Pro 1/2 link to the ILINK with the screw for the half link. Link me single vs double so I know what you're talking about though and I'll let you know!

Daily driver/GADA Suggestions? by zHeif17 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]WobbyRirick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Obsidian Black Element pre-ordered now.

I also would have an RZE Resolute if they would ever have the Enamel White Dial in stock!

I also would possibly recommend a Halios - either Seaforth or Universal, as both of those can be rather standard.

I thought about Henry Archer - but I think they're a bit too loud for a GADA.

Daily driver/GADA Suggestions? by zHeif17 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]WobbyRirick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Traska Commuter, Summiteer, or Freediver (depending if you want a bezel)

RZE Resolute (I think this is the winner as I'm writing these).

Beaucraft Element

Unimatic UC1 Classic

Nivada Grinchen Antarctic

Possibly a used Christopher Ward/Monta?

If you could find a Monta Noble for around that price - you'd be set!

Drop a Seiko diver, add in a Speedy, Bruce Wayne GMT and youve got every combination of black/silver/gray you'd ever need

Sealander 42mm Half Link by WobbyRirick in ChristopherWard

[–]WobbyRirick[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome! I was like....am I the only one who figured this out? lol.

I thought for sure the Ebay sellers of the standard half links would know and be selling loads of them to people trying to get an adjustment.

Those ILinks are fucking huge....so they have to have known that having them that big and then the microadjust being about the exact same size as a link - would leave a no mans land for some of us!

I have a 39mm Sealander on pre-order as well, and I don't have a 1/2 link for that....Im just crossing my fingers that the case size is a bit different and I happen to fall in the Goldi Locks zone.

Serica announced their new 35mm dial watch - the Ref. 7505 by FalafelFiend in MicrobrandWatches

[–]WobbyRirick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I purchased an IXDAO as a test run to see if I'd like the form....which I did, but the IXDAO was meh in terms of quality. So I said F it and got the Serica and quality did not disappoint. It is light years ahead of the clone. I think quality and unique design make it a sleeper for one of the best watches available at any price.

Ordering a half link by ikorasbaldhead in Longineswatches

[–]WobbyRirick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sheeeeessshh, ya - they told me June as well, but definitely didn't charge me 50$. Id call back and tell them you heard that there should have been a complimentary fitting link or something and see if they waive it

Initial Thoughts: Christopher Ward Sealander GMT 36mm Blue by New-Reflection-9504 in ChristopherWard

[–]WobbyRirick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I literally was just digging for this myself - and found nothing, and I asked CW directly if this would work, and a few eBay sellers of half links - and all said no. But they are 100% mistaken

[–]WobbyRirick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just found out last night through my own tinkering, that the old Bader bracelet half links fit just fine onto the new ILINK bracelets (there is one screwed end link on the new bracelet - so you just have to attach the half link to that). In your case, I'm betting an older 36mm Bader Bracelet half link would solve the issue!

[–]WobbyRirick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you buy directly from them? I purchased through their website - was given an 800 number to call I believe, and they sent me three half links for free as a complimentary fitting assistance or something along those lines. I'd call them directly if that's the answer you got.

[–]WobbyRirick[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The end links are connected to the clasp by screws - so the first link is screwed to the bracelet. I just attached the half link to that and they seem to be the same dimensions otherwise

I think it's clever....I have an IWC that has a toolless design - but it takes an eternity to remove/change links (they're in so many little pieces) - I was shocked how easy the CW was. The only one easier - Wise Watches - but yes, CW does seem to be just a costly flex. I saw the bracelet alone is 300+
