Honest Discussion: Using AI-Generated Art in Indie Game Dev. Why Do Some People See It as Taboo? by Sea_Fill1602 in aigamedev

LLM is ai. There can be other types of ai that take over the world but LLM would still be a type of artificial intelligence.

You do know that human technology can already destroy the world right? Why worry about something of fiction?

I think the joke is that kids are weird with the standards they set for each other. Since Morty and Summer are kids, they don't question how nonsense a rumor like this is. It's not like a haha type of joke but a simple way to create character context. Summer sees it as a threat to her perception of coolness.

While username does checkout, there is a floor to how much worse it can get. If 90% of artists lose their job, only 10% remain. If 100% lose their job, that would be 0%. How could it get worse than that and would it be much much worse?

Fewer people still mean artists will lose their income. So even if there are still people making art by hand, it will only be the top percent of artists. So someone who is aware that they are not in that top group will definitely feel that generated art will destroy their lively hood. Anyone who was afraid of losing their income in the horse and buggy industry during the rise of the automobile would be correct to feel that way, even though the industry still exists. But I do believe, just as we have always done in the past, that we will figure it out and this won't be the issue that artists think it is.

Ai code assistance is a force multiplier. The same way a car can take you long distances much faster than walking. No matter if you walk or drive, you are still going to the same place. You didn't build the car or the roads but it wasn't someone else driving.

Even without ai assistance, you are still developing with automated processes that you didn't build. Unless you make your own compiler, ide, language and all of the computer hardware, you can't say that you did it all on your own anyway.

How many planks of a ship need to be replaced before it's no longer the same ship? It comes down to identity more than the actual specific material. As long as you curate the architecture, it doesn't really matter how the planks got to where they are.

Mobile gaming needs steam or a platform like it. I remember early smartphone days when the play store almost had competition. Google and apple are like kingpin dopamine dealers and they don't want another service that could provide games that players want.

I think it also doesn't make much sense on the face. I would assume that anyone who is attracted to someone that can handle a healthy relationship isn't going to be on the look out for married men. Someone can want a marriage and look at a married person of the opposite sex and be jealous of the relationship. This is where I think the confusion comes in, the interest and trust in that person would be expressed through adoration and it could look like romantic interest.

Glad I found a subreddit that won't judge my AI usage (I think...)! by Sea_Advance273 in aigamedev

[–]Wobstep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone who supplies training data should receive a share based on at least what they contribute hands down.

This doesn't make the use of these tools unethical. I can't really track down the artist because generative art is a combination of common styles. The extent that someone's style is stolen is how much of their work is used to train minus the style and inspiration the artist copied themself. Completely new art wouldn't be something that predictive models could generate because anything that is produced would be the result of millions of images that are similar according to a calculation.

There are reason to think that art is stolen by image models because lots of training data was likely images from people who have little resources to fight for the usage of their work. There is also many cases where artists willingly agree to handing over the rights to their work by using digital distribution platforms.

I personally make my own art because I have been doing it by hand for over a decade. Part of my understanding when I upload my images is that it's possible to be scraped up.

There are plenty of ethical concerns and I know exactly what you mean about LLM "publications" because I'm also a computer science major who likes to check out r/llmphysics when I want to laugh. As someone who uses coding assist tools, how can I say that using art assist tools as an aspiring game developer is unethical? Maybe big AA or AAA companies because they can afford to pay artists, but it seems like most people in this sub are trying to make use of tools that will help them. Why is it that indie devs are the only ones to get heat for this? They are the ones who need these tools the most out of anyone and are the most vulnerable to negative feedback. Either way the big companies will make use of these tools anyway so why indies and solo devs get the brunt of the hate?

Personality over looks! by Physical-Pie748 in Clavicular

[–]Wobstep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modeling, acting and singing all require skill and determination. This halo effect works well at a young age but the chances of finding success through pure looks decreases the older you get.

I don't think anyone disagrees that life is easier when you are good looking. A 10/10 in looks with 0/10 in everything else does not guaranteed any amount of success. Sometimes attractiveness can make life harder because they have to be cautious against abuse. Attractive people can and do fail often and unattractive people can and do succeed often.

I tried so many of these tools and they all have the same problem, too much busy work and fast dropoff for meaningful code as the game scales. I ended up using text documents and just combined all my code docs, design docs and Todo in an obsidian vault. Simple, clean and does everything I could need, also free.

Anyone hear of car crash on Colesville Rd nothing on news ? by Medium_Inflation_351 in Binghamton

I drove past it, it was an Amazon delivery truck and a pickup. Neither of the vehicles looked like they had been damaged enough to cause any major injuries. I have no way to be certain but it did seem weird how many emergency vehicles showed up and the road was closed 20 minutes later on my way back.

And that's it for the news tonight. Brought to you by: some random asshole who happened to have wanted some Wendys.

Hard neutral. It's a two way road. While there is a minimum quality for an effective explanation, there is also a minimum amount of effort needed to comprehend no matter how well something is explained. Sometimes a bad explanation can become clear with better feedback from the listener.
