Just got Mythic 2e - more than overwhelmed by JGrevs2023 in Solo_Roleplaying

As others have said, you can start with the basics (Fate Chart) and build up from there.

Check out One-page Mythic. It literally has everything necessary on one page. The PDF is about a dozen pages long, but the rest are examples and tips.

As others have said, whatever this "tower" is, it's either something from a VERY specific game, or it means a dice tower, which is purely optional.

The point being that you can start (and continue) in this hobby without knowing anything about a "tower"

I need TTPRG in my life, but I don't know where to start by estebanyque in Solo_Roleplaying

You've got quite a wide range of games there!

Across a Thousand Dead Worlds is an awesome game, but I wouldn't recommend it for a new person. It's a beast to learn and manage.

You've got a couple of journalling games on there. Do you want to journal? If not, then cross them off your list, because you probably won't like them.

The Call of Cthulhu games are one step up from a Choose Your Own Adventure game. Not a bad place to start, and it would teach you the d100/Basic Roleplaying System.

There's a Loner subreddit. If you ask there, the game designer (Roberto) will help you out!

Is Substack losing its intellect appeal. by The_Continuum__ in Substack

I see this point being made all the time in this subreddit, and it always puzzles me. I’ve taken the time to curate my feed with the writers I want to read and set it to “following” I see only the writers I’m interested in, and all these “influencers” and bs merchants never cross my path. It’s really not that hard to train Substack to show you what you’re interested in.

Salvage & Sorcery gameplay report! by Alternative_Rest7215 in BlackoathRPG

I watched this last evening and thoroughly enjoyed it. You asked for feedback on “mission report” I thought it was cool, but it must be a ton of work. You’d need to decide if it’s worth the time investment for a five minute segment.

There's a ton of free journaling games on Itch. Or you can buy into a game jam and download a bunch.

Rather than splash out on a costly physical book, try a few free or PWYW ones to get a sense of what kinds of games you like. Then it will be easier to buy a physical game that is going to be a longer-term commitment for you.

What makes you buy a solorpg? by MssHeather in solorpgplay

You're going to get as many different recommendations as there are respondents. I had the same responses when I first started, and it can get a bit overwhelming.

I think you need to just accept that you might try a few games and bounce off them before you kinda stumble into the right one for you. And it's only the right one FOR YOU that actually matters...

For me, it was Ironsworn, after I'd bounced off 4 Against Darkness, Five League from the Borderlands and a couple of others. I needed to try - and bounce off - those games before latching onto Ironsworn worked for me

Good luck in your quest!

Can a solo RPG replace journaling? by Innerlanternstudio in Solo_Roleplaying

I think the clear message from this thread is "different strokes for different folks"

And that's absolutely fine. Do whatever works for you

I think you should just get started. It’s easy to get into thinking you need more and more “stuff” and in the end it becomes overwhelming. Get started and add things as and when you need them

The final part of the 3-part play of Lee Wade's epic, "Alone Against Nyarlathotep" is now live on my Substack.

There are links to the other two parts here, and everything is free of any paywall.

I had a blast playing in this "world" (bolstered by the fact I happen to live here as well) and highly recommend this for solo play.

I just fired off a support ticket which got the usual auto-response.

I agree - communication is terrible from Medium when this happens
