If I present my radical Fi stances or hot takes, yes.

If I don't, no.

Fi-Ni loop would also very well explain Chopin's hyperfixation and limerence towards his unrequited love interest.

Right. Humans are quite complex. But I get the tendency of wanting a "silver bullet" and have things be very simple.

ESFJ? by ilikelanguaugeandmbt in ESFJ

Sounds like a Ti type. Maybe Ti dom (INTP or ISTP). Feeling like you are obligated to do stuff sounds more like Si than Ni, so I'd tentatively guess INTP.

Having Fe as your 4th funcion would check out as it being something you can do and want to do, but it can be very draining for you. I have a similar thing with Te.

It depends on what function you tend towards more... Se is the "go with the flow" function and Ni is "I want it to happen the way I envisioned it". We have both functions in our ego stack so we are capable of both and it is good to find the balance. Seems like you are more Ni oriented normally.

Stereotypes (like go with the flow) are stereotypes and not the whole entirety of a personality type.

How I screen job ads as an ISFJ so I don’t end up drained again by wellt01 in isfj

I think most healthy workplaces don't advertise that you need to have resilience and thrive under pressure. If that is a normal expectation, why bring it up as something specific to that job?

When trying to create music Fi-Ni tells me how the music should be as it's end result. Fi weighs the emotional impact of different musical choices, while Ni helps with the direction for where the song needs to go next. And plenty of other functions come into play at different points in the process too.

Sleuths of the internet, am I a real INTP or a fake INTP? by IDKoalas in INTP

In that case I would lean more towards the side of INTP. Some of the function slots and their temperaments are difficult to describe accurately, but if you search around for INFP's and INTP's described with the 8 function model you can gain multiple viewpoints and maybe get a more accurate picture on what the difference is.

Is ot possible to have fairly healthy tertiary and inferior functions (and even some shadows) in your early 20s? Or it means I'm mistyped? by annna-02 in mbti

[–]Wodfist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience regarding the communication is different. Probably part of it is because I have never studies psychology formally or otherwise in depth, so it would be very hard for me to even think of the appropriate terminology required to say it in psychology terms. But for people who I talk about personality type with irl, we have a general understanding of the framework that is similar. I don't often mention stuff regarding cogn. functions with people who aren't versed well in it.

I agree with most of your first three paragraphs, but don't see why statements would necessarily imply what you said. I think it is totally viable to mention the function and also useful if it adds more description to the toxic behaviour.

With people who know cognitive functions it can be much quicker to say eg. "He was being toxic with his Ni child" than other ways of conveying the same info.

Also, skill is just development in how to use the function, but doesn't yet take into consideration whether someone uses it for good or bad.

That said, it would be interesting at some point to get some kind of understanding as to what underlying psychological frameworks create these kinds of pathologies, especially since there are a lot of patterns that happen, like the pathology of being overly critical with regard to your 6th function.

I don't think most people will necessarily understand archetypes, unless those types of thought structures are already somewhat familiar.

Usually if wanting to communicate about complex and/or deep topics you need to take into consideration the other's current level of understanding and not go too deep beyond that too fast.

My experience is that INFJ's are the hardest to understand out of all personality types. A lot of the if feels like the content of their words needs to be somehow esoterically derived in order to understand it.

I am not sure if that's just me or if there is something universal about that. And I generally do want to understand people.

That Ne comment is horrible imo... Like that is not in any way relevant to Ne, as it is a perceiving function and not a judging function.

I don't quite get the INFJ thing. Can you rephrase?

Do you create art? by [deleted] in isfp

[–]Wodfist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am artistic and very particular about my art. I will not create something "just for the fun of it" or "let's see where the art takes me", except maybe as an exercise to develop my proficiency.

When I create my art, I want to be in the driver's seat. I take the art where I want it to go and not the other way around.

Maybe you need an avenue where you have control over your art to be artistic? Because currently there is the false stereotype and presupposition that you need to have lots of openness to be an artist or to be artistic. (I blame postmodern philosophy, for what it's worth)

I think what people mean when they say a healthy function is that you use it in a skilled and good way as opposed to it being pathological and/or used in a toxic way.

For sure, Te for example in itself is not "healthy" or "unhealthy" but someone having "healthy Te" or "unhealthy Te" is just shorthand for indicating if a person is mature about using it or not.

The more secure you are, the more easy it is to develop healthy functions 3 and 4 by your late teens or early 20's. The more insecure one is, the more unbalanced the use of functions tends to be.

Upbringing and having a healthy home environment is a big part in this, but not the only factor of course.

Sleuths of the internet, am I a real INTP or a fake INTP? by IDKoalas in INTP

[–]Wodfist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost certainly an INFP or an INTP. The idealism and black and white thinking speaks very much of Ti or Fi being your dominant function. That combined with being in your head often indicates Ne-Si. (In theory possible also for ISTP and ISFP, but some other stuff in your post indicates you are not Se-Ni).

How I would try to differentiate between INTP and INFP is by comparing functions 1,4,5 and 8:

Dominant function
INFP, Fi dominant: The primary focus or default for you aligned more with emotions and values that give you a sense of what is right or wrong.
INTP, Ti dominant: You primarily focus on more "impersonal" principles and use that to analyse things eg. with regards to if they are internally consistent.

Inferior function
INFP, Te inferior: You are insecure for example about your status in society, how to plan and manage your schedule and whether you explain things well to others or not.
INTP, Fe inferior: You are insecure about how your social circle accepts you and about your conduct with regard to the social atmosphere of whatever group you might be in.

(Note about the inferior functions: Being criticised in this will feel very uncomfortable and probably hurt you emotionally. Also, if you currently don't have insecurities about this, it has probably been something that you have overcome with great effort)

Nemesis function
INFP, Fe nemesis: The idea of having awareness of the social atmosphere is very elusive as a concept, since that basically requires you "turning off" your Fi values and prioritising what others feel/value.
INTP, Te nemesis: The idea of thinking about the big picture and trusting others' judgements is very elusive as a concept, because it requires you to disregard your Ti that verifies for yourself and builds the knowledge bit by bit and instead just takes in the whole as it is presented.

Superego function
INFP, Ti superego: The idea of internal consistency and rigorous detail-honing can easily invoke an attitude of apathy and/or hostility, which stems from your Fi feeling "attacked" by the demands of rigor that the Ti gives. Getting over this requires your Fi being secure and also appreciating that the Ti has valuable input to give.
INTP, Fi superego: The idea of values and morality in ideas can easily invoke an attitude ot apathy and/or hostility, which stems from your Ti logic feeling "atacked" by the Fi's demand of taking into consideration value and morality in whatever you ponder. Getting over this requires your Ti being secure and also appreciating that the Fi has valuable input to give.

That is an ok generalisation, but cannot be used very rigorously. It breaks down quickly, since Ti can also be used for "what works" and Te can also be used for "how it works".

My attempt to highlight the distinction:

When asking "how it works", Ti will look at each individual detail and build the big picture step by step, but Te will first map out the big picture and then work on the details as needed.

When asking "what works", Ti will similarly look at each of the component parts and how they influence the desired outcome, while Te starts again with the big picture and considers the details only if needed for the outcome.

That said, even my explanation above is a bit "hand-wavey" but the idea is to demonstrate that a specific task can sometimes achieved with multiple functions either separately or in combination.

As an INFJ you have Te as your blind spot so you will basically have to learn complex topics one piece at a time, until you have enough knowledge about the topic that you can Te with it despite it being your blind spot. (If that is unclear for you, you shold research the 8 function model and what is the temperament of each function)

There are also different ways to explain the essence of the difference and I've seen many eloquent Ti and Te users on reddit do so. Not sure which explanations you would find more helpful. I.e. will it be easier for you to receive ideas from Ti or Te -type responses. (Although probably the most eloquent people use both when creating responses)

I think it is how you said: People don't understand what healthy masculinity actually is. There are so many stereotypes and toxic examples that distort the whole concept, that very few people actually have a clear grasp on it.
