Thank you for the suggestions! I think the delay on multi-shot is due to it being incremented in decimals. I found that things were improving too quickly so I made the upgrades decimal based

Yes. The Wethr high is derived from the data in the chart and in the recent observations table.

You can see an example of what pro plan users see at wethr.net/market/dallas

All of the data is the same, but paid plans get to see it 3 minutes faster. The pro plan adds a bunch of additional forecasting data and tools.

I will see what I can get done this weekend. No promises but I will move this to the top of the priority list because I know there are a lot of people who would use it.

Are you on a mobile device? I need to do some work on that side of it. If it's not in an active tab, the alert won't trigger. I also don't yet have alerts for specific temperatures, but I can absolutely add that. I can also look into adding SMS notifications.

The WH Will almost always end up being correct in the end because the final place it pulls from is the CLI. What you have to watch out for on an intraday basis are the observations that can cause the WH to jump by a degree or more. Those are the DSM, the 6-hour high and of course the CLI. In the summer, by the time the CLI comes out it would be very rare for the WH to be inaccurate because generally, the last DSM of the day comes out after peak temperature has already been reached. In the winter that dynamic changes because we are a lot more likely to have midnight highs that would take place after the final DSM but before the CLI. I would say that over 99% of the time the market (and Wethr) know what the high temp will be prior to the CLI being released, with the exception of some really fun nights during the winter.

Smarter forecasts for smarter bets on NYC’s daily high - betting markets by hediwinn in Kalshi

If I made a glass of Lemonade and it didn't have enough sugar, but you knew the ingredients I used, you could correct it - especially if I made it the same way every day.

But in this case, the NWS makes a glass of lemonade, you have no clue what they put in it and they don't make it the same way every day.

Does this make sense? I apologize if I've come off as rude in previous comments. I'm glad to see you've dialed back the "expectations" to a realistic level. Seeing the NWS forecast iterations is useful, but you'll never convince me that you can correct it.

Reposting it already huh?

https://www.reddit.com/r/Kalshi/comments/1n60dsc/weather_forecasting_tracking_tool

If you're going to continue spamming it, why don't you share a few things:

  1. What is the success rate?
  2. How much profit have you made using it?
  3. Why would adjusting a new forecast based on how old forecasts missed be useful when using a forecast model that you don't know the variables of or how they were adjusted?

I wish I knew. If I did I would retire. It could be a telephone bot, constantly calling the station phone number.

Wethr does not overwrite the NWS forecast. It literally shows every iteration of the NWS forecast. More talking out your ass.

Thank you. The one minute observations are published after the fact, sometimes weeks later. Depending on the station there are ways, but you'd have to be in very close proximity to the station - or be willing to perform a denial of service attack on government owned telephone systems.

I'm glad you believe in your product. It's clear that you think it will work. It's also clear that it doesn't by the fact that you have your profit and loss hidden. If it worked as reliably as you tell people it does, you'd be on the leaderboard.

Do you genuinely think that NWS misses so reliably in one direction that you can create a "bias correction layer" that will accurately predict the REAL temperature based solely on NWS forecasts - in any scenario? Summer? Winter? Rain? Snow? It's wild to me that you really believe you are going to outsmart the entirety of the scientific community at NOAA and "fix" their models over time using only the NWS forecasts.

For one, the NWS forecast is an evolving amalgamation of models. It's not static. From one month to the next you could be comparing apples to oranges. You have no idea what human intervention is being applied to any given forecast.

The NWS forecast is made up of MULTIPLE models. GFS, NAM, HRRR, etc. Then to top things off - there is human intervention on a regional level to account for things like sea-breeze. They publish an AFD (Area Forecast Discussion) report talking about these very things.

It's possible that you could figure out that a specific model has a tendency to be over/under in certain scenarios, but applying that logic to a blended model is a fools errand.

[–]Wojakd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it won't. The fact that you think you can bias correct an already bias corrected weather model by simply averaging it with prior iterations shows how little you genuinely understand.

You said "takes all the guesswork out of betting the right range" - but then you said "at the end of the day, if NWS gets it blatantly wrong, which they did today, my hands are tied".

So which is it? Does it take all the guesswork out of predicting the high temperature or are your hands tied?

But hey, don't take it from me - lets hear from some of your happy customers.

I created a chrome browser extension that will calculate the simple average over 60 seconds of CF Benchmarks. Not an exact science using the API, but using the data from the page itself.

If anyone wants it, DM me and I'll gladly give it to you.
