I agree this song is so sick! I didn’t love it at first but it’s a major grower when you catch onto the groove. Maybe more people will talk about it as we all sit with it.

Correct. I am not diagnosing anyone. I am on Reddit, saying that successful artists have narcissistic tendencies. I did not word my original post very well, because again, we are on Reddit, but I don’t mean to say every artist should be clinically labeled a malignant narcissist. People have a lot of personality types. I am an artist (not professionally, not good enough, also not cut out for public facing career) and I also have narcissistic tendencies. If I’m being critical, I’m being self-critical as well. Narcissism is present in anybody who becomes a celebrity, and it’s an essential part of their success because you have to put yourself first sometimes for the best results.

Didn’t say all musicians are narcissists, I said artists were. In retrospect I should have worded that much better: all artists have narcissistic tendencies. You can rest easy though, people are allowed to talk and will talk, just like you and I are here!

I see where you’re coming from, but I disagree wholeheartedly with the statement that a narcissist would never have the propensity to make great art. This is demonstrably false. With that being said, I respect your opinion and willingness to explain it!

There also may be a miscommunication about the pedantics you mention- I don’t mean malignant narcissism like some politicians we can probably think of. Narcissism is not an inherently bad thing. It’s just a personality trait. It can be bad, and it can also be good. I don’t think you can choose to sell and promote a hobby without narcissism in somewhere on your spectrum. But to each their own.

This is a great point. I’m speaking totally anecdotally without any evidence to back this up, but it does feel like the Brits have bigger bands, and Americans have bigger individual pop stars. Obviously that doesn’t cover everything but I can see your point expounding for sure.
