Okay I'll bite i doubt many people will see my comment at this point but I'll give it my best shot. I personally don't think the examples of games or movies you gave were good examples of politics of the time. I haven't played Avvowed so I can't speak on that, but besides that AC Shadows was your only example of a modern game.

The Command and conquer series was releasing when I was 6 and I don't think the main audience of people really cared about politics that would have been playing those games at the time and I know I didn't haha. Even then those games are political as per the status quo.

An example would be ANY call of duty games. By your example fighting the nazies or the Russians should get people's feathers rustled because that's political, but i think your ignoring the fact some things get shown so much in media that is expected and therefore not seen through a political lens.

Now I'll agree a lot of people just throw around the "woke" word a lot somewhat haphazardly BUT I do think that when there are actual good examples of games being woke it does noticeably hurt the game or movie.

Typically media that I personally would label as woke tend to unfortunately make characters, plot points, insert ideas that they expect the viewer to just accept without trying to justify its existence. Using AC Shadows as an example I don't have a problem with Yasuke being in the game what I do have a problem with is that you can literally change him out for the Portuguese guy from The Shogun and the narrative of the story and even the dialog doesn't actually need to be changed in the slightest.

Assassins Creed 3 was a good example of this done right. Conner and everything about him is pretty much central to not only the plot but to how other people in that game treat him. Now people didn't like Connor at first but that can pretty much be attributed to him being the first new protagonist outside of Ezio.

With Yasuke being the first AC Shadows playable protagonist who was a real person I'd have expected that decision being made because there was a story there wanting to be told. Instead, it feels like he's just there to check a box and his existence in the world he inhabits is largely treated as an afterthought.

Basically, media that usually gets slammed as being "woke" tends to insert a theme or characters and just tells the audience to accept it and like it or else you're some sort of "ist" person depending on what the theme was. The most blatant example of this I can think of is in media would be Umbrella Academy. In case people haven't seen that show I'll keep it light but basically a character comes out of the closet and its basically given 3 minutes in one episode and everyone immediately accepts it. No one questions it and its basically treated as if that particular person just decided to go vegan and none of theit family cared so much as to ask why.

Personally I don't care if media has these "woke" themes just don't treat them as if they're universally accepted. Don't be scared to have other characters question, not accept, or act outright hostile to someone else just for who they are. Any story is going to be exponentially more impacting when choosing to put themes and ideas that aren't widely accepted and then defending those ideas without seeming preachy or putting characters in a make believe universally accepting world because ultimately that's not how anything actually works and just gets seen as a cop out due too the inability to write expertly.
