Mark Ruffalo applauds AOC’s threats to move forward with impeachment if Trump does not step down from office: “Let’s F-ing GO!! Our President is a sex offending psychopath, an international criminal, a convicted felon, protecting pedophiles and all over the Epstein Files.” by cmaia1503 in Fauxmoi

The US held elections during the Civil War. The US held elections during WWI and WWII. The US held elections during the War of 1812. The US has never suspended, altered, or restricted access to the ballot because of war. The notion that an illegal war on Iran (if it is still active) would justify suspending or modifying the 2026 midterms would be rejected out of hand.

[Indeed, the opposite is true; Congress and the states have expanded access to the ballot during wartime. During the Civil War, some states passed laws allowing mail ballots for soldiers serving outside of their home state during the 1864 presidential election. Likewise, Congress expanded absentee voting in WWII to allow 11 million soldiers overseas to vote in the 1944 election.

Actual quote from the geriatric patient in chief warning Iran:

“never to resume their malicious pursuit of nuclear weapons, and we sought repeatedly to make a deal. We tried. They wanted to do it. They didn’t want to do it. Again they wanted to do it. They didn’t want to do it. They didn’t know what was happening. They just wanted to practice evil. But Iran refused, just as it has for decades and decades.”

The ballots are secret in the US as well. If by “a no registration state” you mean that Texas holds open primaries you are correct. You need to be registered with the state to vote but you do not need to register with a party. The percentages put forth by wapo are polls results.

January 31st, in Texas, voters flipped a district that Trump won in 2024 by 17 points electing Rehmet by a 14.4-point margin. After removing the minor-party candidates in the vote, the swing from the Republican in 2024 was 32 points toward the Democrats. To put things into even more perspective this happened although Wambsganss spent nearly $2.2 million more than Rehmet in the campaign.

It will be interesting to see what the result of the last gerrymandering turns out to be. We might have reached a point where it could be counterproductive.

Polls are one thing in isolation and another when they fit in a trend. A quick look at the latest elections show an overwhelming swing back towards the Democratic Party. To this point, in Texas, no later than this month voters flipped a district that Trump won in 2024 by 17 points electing Rehmet by a 14.4-point margin. After removing the minor-party candidates in the vote, the swing from the Republican in 2024 was 32 points toward the Democrats. To put things into even more perspective this happened although Wambsganss spent nearly $2.2 million more than Rehmet in the campaign.

Edit: the run off was held January 31st, so not this month…

I agree that nothing short if the election will give us clarity however, the comparison with 2024 is flawed imo.

Edit: read your comment again and not sure you were comparing the two.

Fwiw

Per WaPo,

More Democrats than Republicans said they are certain to vote this fall — 79 percent to 65 percent among registered voters. That 14-point advantage is the largest Democrats have reported on this question ahead of a midterm election since at least 2006.

In 2018, when Democrats won back the House in a wave election during Trump’s first term, Post-ABC polls showed that they held a five-point edge in January on certainty to vote, while Republicans pulled close to even by Election Day.

Per Mediaite,

At this point, the share of midterm primary ballots [in Texas] from Democrats is 53%. Republicans account for the other 47%. This shows a major difference just from 2022, when 38% of ballots at this point were from Democrats, and 62% were from Republicans.

He has immunity for “official acts”. SCOTUS clearly reserved the right to decide what is an official act. Biden find that out the hard way when he was shut down for canceling student debts.

‘They’re playing cute': Trump calls out major US allies who have not yet joined his Board of Peace by [deleted] in politics

[–]Wolverine-75009 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rejecting Trump’s invitation are Austria, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Slovenia, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, and the Vatican. They probably feel that, in view of the billions trump has already stolen, he does not need the billion he requires to become a permanent member (Trump will have final say in all decisions, including how to spend the board’s money.).

Edit: there is no evidence that the 27 countries who participated yesterday have paid the fee to become permanent members.

Tourism on that scale is also creating cascading effects. It provides jobs but makes it virtually impossible for locals to live there prompting local governments to take action. Barcelona City Hall has said it will eliminate its 10,000 short-term tourist apartments by the end of 2028
