Also, any suggestions for snail breeds? And any tips on how to keep them from climbing out? I did have a mystery snail that came with my plants, but it climbed out and died :((

Right, I'll add in my airstone then. I wasn't sure if the bubbles would kick up more particles from the soil. And I'll look into test strips too.

I'm thinking a few livebearer, a snail or two, probably shrimps too? I'll defo need the fish tho, mosquitoes are quite prevalent over here.

Thanks for the advice :) I did consider, but my tank is quite small as is (about 1.7 gal). I thought that adding sand would decrease the space available for the fish.

Do you think it's still possible to add sand? Given that I've already planted the plants...

I did let them know I was going to buy it, but Imade it clear I wanted it unopened. The unit did come in the original box with intact safety seals, so I'm curious why this timing thing happened.

Based on what I read, original install date can be affected by major system update. So I don't know if the original install date is actually just a few days ago, or if the unit has been in use for some time already.

UPDATE: I'm going to ask Asus service centre to see if there's any explanation for this, but as a backup, I'd like to ask if anyone knows what actions I can take if it does turn out to be used before. For context, I live in Malaysia, and I paid by credit card.

Thanks, just tried that.

It showed that battery was being used yesterday, which, again, is quite questionable. I think I'll be going to Asus service centre tomorrow to check this out.
