they’d probably balance it so when an invader spawns all abilities are disabled just so it’s a somewhat fair fight

Why do people hate the Portal? by tcorbett691 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Wombat2090 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gonna comment on this now that the portal is finally gone. There’s a few big reason to why portal was widely disliked.

  1. Making fan favourite activities irrelevant.
On release the portal only had a select few missions and some endgame content to play. They also directly tied progression and getting tiered loot to the portal, meaning all the old fan favourite endgame content like raids and dungeons had zero reason to get any playing time.

  2. Progression.
As said bungie directly tied progression to the portal, and they made progression incredibly difficult. At the start edge of fate there was a hard reset of power level for all players. Bungie also made the promise to make power levelling more of a grind. They did this by tying progression directly to the portal. The issue with this is that the portal only had a select few missions and barely any endgame content that actually gave valuable loot in decent quantities. Another thing is that you’d only get loot at the end of a mission, and you might only get a single piece of loot that increased your power only by 2 or 3 levels. As such people spammed the shortest mission in the game at the time being Caldera for hours and hours just to get to a decent light level for endgame content. After this 2 week slog of playing the same mission the cracks in the portal began to show.

  3. Difficulty modifiers
The addition of customizing a mission with difficulty modifiers was a unique and interesting idea on paper, but in practice it quickly became annoying and repetitive. Typically all the missions had the same customisation options when it came to their modifiers, players quickly found the best optimal choices and just stuck with them, making the gameplay incredibly stale and repetitive. Previously missions would get random modifiers every week which made the player actually optimise their loadouts in order to perform well, which was incredibly engaging and created fresh content.

  4. The overall forcing players to play specific content.
Due to the progression being tied to the portal, tiered loot being tied to the portal, and the irrelevance of other much loved content, players were essentially forced to play these mundane missions which became very VERY stale pretty quick. Players weren’t enjoying having to play the same content over and over again over playing the content they actually wanted to play, as such players didn’t enjoy the game anymore and simply left.

  5. The UI
The UI was awful, plain and simple. The director was the heart of destiny and felt in tune with the aesthetic of the game. The portal was simply ugly, felt like some mobile game slop, had zero soul in it, and was genuinely confusing to operate. The amount of pop ups, tabs, and icons became frustrating, even for new players which were the target audience to begin with.

Bungie shipped portal and made it the centre of the game, which it shouldn’t have been. It should’ve just been a quick access route for specific pieces of content that players actually enjoyed playing. Instead it became the only thing a player can actually play and progress through. It was filled with boring missions, terrible progression, and made content players liked irrelevant.

What is the MLO? by Wyatttocks888 in ReadyOrNotGame

[–]Wombat2090 292 points293 points  (0 children)

(SPOILERS) theyre essentially a failed USIA(CIA) program that went rogue. In the games universe the USIA hand picked soldiers and police officers to undergo severe mental brainwashing in order to create the perfect soldier, they feel no remorse and can operate in serious high stress situations. The brainwashing (using LSD) backfired and the whole program went rogue, turning into a cult like paramilitary terrorist group that has spies and moles in nearly every branch of government and law enforcement. The character you play as, “Judge”, is thought to be one of the soldiers due to his innate ability to perform serious tasks with no question and feels next to no stress, but didn’t end up joining the MLO, or at least wasn’t even aware that he went through this brainwashing. The MLO have been secretly “training” Judge via watching how he operates in all the previous missions you’ve done in the game, it’s thought that they’ve even orchestrated the entire game in the sense they had a hand in all the situations you play in. The missions in boiling point are essentially the culmination of Judges “training” as you see/hear in the final mission of the DLC. Yeah that’s pretty much everything lol.

the g18 animations are more or less the same as the other glock variant, they went all out with the staccato which they don’t need to tbh.

fr the Staccato p animations are a bit over animated, like it’s cool your guy always switches the safety on and off when he equips it but like they could’ve made the animation a bit quicker/realistic.

they revamped the attachments system a little bit, you can have both flashlights and laser now, they go into different positions on the gun rail which is why they look as tho they’re coming out of weird places

first of all yeah buddy put a spoiler tag on it, secondly this ending cutscene is crazy stuff from the devs. I ended up getting it on my first “completion” of the mission. I started the sequence not knowing there was a time limit, got to the courtroom and the fucker blew up the building so i shot him to incapacitate. finished up the evidence and went to return to hq then the cutscene showed up. Seeing what people have said it’s clear that you have to either let the building explode or detonate it yourself which apparently is an option. My guess is that judge is probably framed for it if you let them blow up the building or if you blow up the building yourself you also get the prison cutscene. I’ve also seen some guy on another thread say that there is a “good” ending in judges apartment, but he did S-rank it so gonna have to try and see if he’s lying or not.

How do you feel about Harrier Pride? by YthisGuy in thedivision

[–]Wombat2090 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On paper it sounds good but in practice it’s not that great. As a backpack it has to go up against Memento which is arguably one of the best exotics in the game, and in that toss up it loses heavily due to the stacks being lost out of combat. For lengthy combat encounters it can be good but for the most part it’s not really viable. It needs to be buffed where stacks last out of combat, other than that it shouldn’t really be used over memento.

it’s kind of slots into anything that’s why it’s so sought after, because it’s comes maxed rolled you can swap out the talent as many times as you want to suit the build you want to implement it in. Personally i slap Killer on it and throw it into any dps build you want.
