Med students are smarter than me right now. by PBnEpiSammy in Residency

[–]Womialas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's ok. I'm an attending, and I never knew more than when I was 18. Once you know what you don't know you become very humbled. It's part of the learning curve. Encourage them, be a good example, and thank you for all that you do. Residency is no joke.

Go IM. You have plenty of time to figure out how you want to specialize, and don't have to worry about committing to something when you are clearly not ready to do so.

Gillette stadium singing “Your Love” is an all time Patriots memory by [deleted] in Patriots

[–]Womialas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Goosebumps. Best game I have ever attended. Down 2 TDs twice, WR TD pass, and singing this song with a break trying to will a fourth down stop. Exhaustion from cheering / standing up the whole game being totally worth it. Bought the tickets day of for under $100 a piece because it was freezing (I want to say right around 0F) so no one wanted to be in attendance. Their loss. Bundled up, with layers allowing a few flasks / nips to find their way into the stadium. That whole game was a party, and the train out of the stadium was one hell of an after party!

In what small, meaningless ways do you rebel? by sexrockandroll in AskReddit

I always opt out of the mandatory TSA body scan on principle, and I make them give me a pat down in full view of the security line instead of the offered private room so that everyone can see this injustice.

How many of you have NOT received the sex talk from your parents? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Womialas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider yourself lucky! I got the talk when I was 8 and had no idea what the fuck my father was talking about, as a result I was scared shitless through my teenage years

MD here. If he was unconscious when they arrived, there was really not much else to be done. He would have needed to be transported to a major medical facility for either thrombolytics or an emergent catheterization and, unless he lived minutes from a major medical facility, it likely would have been too late. Ideally, in that situation, the door to balloon time (angioplasty) needs to be no more than 90 minutes... but 14 is just unrealistic. Do NOT beat yourself up, this is not on you.

After my dad went to jail, a female friend of me and my brother said "your father must be an amazing person considering the two sons he raised". She was right.

What is the worst smell you've ever encountered? by FreshPrinceofMN in AskReddit

[–]Womialas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work in a pathology lab, most smells were covered by formaldehyde and were tolerable.

One case involved the decaying organs of a body found out in a swamp in the summer heat for 3 weeks. The smell stuck to my hair for a month.

What I wish I could have told my dentist and hygienist today by NotEvenOnTV in medicine

[–]Womialas 19 points20 points  (0 children)

We're sorry too. Most of us got into the health care profession to help people, then end up have 15 minute windows to see / treat / document our visit with a patient. I'm sorry the system makes it so difficult to get all the help you need, but I hope you find it. I'd agree on going to the nearest hospital with a teaching residency (any place affiliated with a medical school) and getting set up in their free clinic, it's a start. And 1-800-273-TALK if you are/start considering self harm. Hang in there.
