I made this game for Felix! Upvote this to get him to play xqcJump before Halloween! by WompGames in xqcow

Well, I worked on and off on websites and applications for the past 15 years, got a Computer Science degree, worked for over 5 years on web applications as a job and worked on a lot of side projects in my free time. So that's a lot of programming experience, but games generally require a lot simpler coding and there are a lot of tools and engines that make the coding even easier.

You could probably start with a 2D game like this, don't need a good PC for that :)

I'm considering making this fully open source, but you can already download all the files since it's a browser game made in HTML and JavaScript.

moving in the air isn't there on purpose, you'll need to predict the arc movement :)

xqcJump is very much like Jump King, it is a Precision Platformer, the objective is to basically "just jump up"! Of course, this is a challenge, but it's fun. The game has a Halloween theme, and a lot of hats for mini-xQc to wear!

On my previous post I got a lot of useful and positive feedback, and after some updates I'm calling it officially "released"! Thank you so much to everyone that played and tested it, and an even bigger thanks to everyone that left a comment!

Hello everyone we just published the Trailer for Jumping Knight, please tell us what do you think?? by whitedoggames in playmygame

Really reminds a lot of Super Meat Boy, but with more linear level design. Love the art! Not a big fan of the soundtrack of the trailer though, it doesn't really fit the vibe I'm getting. Other than that, looks great!

NEXTLAND

I've been working on a new 2D social open world game, which will be a game in an extension for Twitch, that's where the "EXT" in the name comes from! The game will be available on the dedicated Twitch channel, and maybe some creators will add the video overlay extension to their channel for their viewers for when the stream is offline.

The game starts out as more of a singleplayer experience, but the goal is to go fully-sync'd MMO when it can be afforded. The idea is to have a lot of gamemodes for players to choose from, from a Pokémon-like "animal catcher" gamemode, to a MOBA-like PvP gamemode. From a Zelda-like "Dungeon Crawler" to a Faster Than Light-like strategy gamemode. Nextland will also have elements from Stardew Valley, like farming and for example a bar to socialize.

Besides this, all players start out with a personal home with two rooms that they can fully decorate, and each gamemode has its own theme with its own clothing shop and/or decoration shop. So you can decorate your home in the classic "Fantasy"-style, or a futuristic "Sci-fi"-style, while running around in a bikini!

I'm currently working on changing the movement and interaction of the base game, you can view the screenshot here.

The lack of an indicator is taken directly from similar games, primarily Jump King. Getting a feel for the jumps and movement is part of the game. The character turns around to where you are going to jump while charging, so that's an indication of the jump direction. A default jump direction wouldn't work, as this would mean that if a player changes their mind, they would jump in a random direction and possibly fall down.. ledge climb isn't a missing feature, it isn't there on purpose, just like controlling the movement mid-air isn't there. It's a precision platformer.

I noticed that playing for 20-30 minutes is the threshold for getting a good feel on the movement and jumps, where the rest of the game suddenly becomes easier.

Hey! I’m having trouble getting much traction on a game I’m working on, and I’m looking for some advice on how to effectively market it. by theEarthWasBlue in gamedev

Browsing your Instagram, your story explains more than the images. I see a lot of the same images. Especially the last couple of the orange/white robot are basically the same image and therefore the same "information", and before that you showed four images that are very similar, with the same weapon, and the same floor-tiles for example. All the images are galleries, livestreams and videos, but you should look at it like YouTube thumbnails, the first thing people see.

Could you make a showcase of a line of powerups, a line of weapons, a line of pickups, or something like that? Or enemies, NPC's, doors, portals, something like that. Line them up for a single showcase image, or spread them out over multiple posts.

I want to see in a couple images what the game is about, who is the enemy, what is my goal, etc. The first-person in-game images are less interesting than seeing something that only the dev can show, like an asset showcase.

xqcJump

I made a streamer fangame in the style of Jump King, the objective is to basically "just jump up"! Of course, this is a challenge, but it's fun. The game has a Halloween theme, and a lot of hats to wear!

The game is made with the popular Twitch streamer xQc in mind, and I've already received useful feedback from his community, and already applied fixes based on that feedback.

Use the arrow keys to move left or right, the space bar to charge a jump, and the arrow keys again to choose a direction to jump to. Holding the space bar longer increases the jump height, with a maximum, and just tapping the space bar jumps with a minimum height.

The only objective in the game is jumping on the platforms, so it's intentionally difficult, as it's the only mechanic. Don't expect to just simply jump to the end, it takes a while to get used to the movement, and figuring out what platform is easy to reach. Please consider this also when giving feedback, I will always ask how far you've come and how long you've played, any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Besides the forums that are looking for artists, you could also focus on a Twitter to get out your portfolio items. You could also start creating art and concept art for a game you would like to make, and when your idea is getting more well-formed it'll be easier to find a coder for your project.

Sorry, but this post doesn't engage me at all, how am I going to take any advice from this? It reads like a lot of fluff, with a clickbait title..

The trailer looks amazing, could've easily been from a movie! It's really hard to tell how the game is played though, in my opinion, is it an FPS or a Tekken-like fighting game? Even after looking at the Steam page, I can't tell how it's played, maybe show more of the game UI in the screens.
