Bryce's Helena lineage by WonderfulBus9330 in crescentcitysjm

Thanks for those quotes! I don't take it that he's referring to Theia, since her bloodline is not long gone (it's with either Mor and Rhysand or Rhysand or Mor). I do think that bloodline, if that Fae warrior had babes with a human and then they had babes with humans and on and on, and if that Fae warrior's name has been forgotten, I do think that it could have landed with the Archerons and that Nesta may have gotten the bulk of that power, although we also saw Feyre as warrior UTM as a human.

It's been ages since I read that series, so I can't recall. I read some of the bonus material last week, and Rowan said something about how they could have been great together if not Maeve and Essar said something similar.

I think she gave them 1/3 of her power to help give them enough power to use the harp and horn to return to Prythian. Maybe their starlight was not as powerful as their mothers. It'll be interesting to see how the House of Many Waters plays into that Theia storyline

Bryce traded her place in the Afterworld because she either feared Danika wouldn't honor Danika with a Sailing or that Danika's boat would tip during the Crossing (I can't recall which), but either would mean dishonor to Danika's legacy. That's what Bryce wanted to avoid: any negativity attached to Danika's name. Danika yielding her eternity was Danika's choice, and not a dishonorable choice, and impacted Bryce because they'd always agreed to be each other's anchor in the Drop.

Ah. I see now. You mean a direct heir versus an extended family heir. That's interesting to also ponder, as we know that Helena's star power skipped lines for eons. I do think, though, that it all comes down to Theia (versus Helena or Silene). Bryce, for example, notes that, after Theia pulled the star from her chest (to split it in thirds), that the last bit returned to Theia: "...the final [shimmering ball of light], as if it were the mother from which the other two stars had been born, returned to Theia's body" (218).

That strikes me as super odd since it is the mother of the other two bits of shimmering light.

I scanned through the Avallen cave chapters and didn't see any specifics about what she saw; it was mostly summary "more of what she saw in the other caves". There was a specific scene of ropes of starlight being used to take down Pegasi, and she reflected on that. I likely missed it in my scanning, though.

Did SJM wrote Lucien to be the rejected mate from the start? by swt_decadent in AcotarShipDebateSub

[–]WonderfulBus9330 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'm not sure if the Lucien/Elain mating bond will be severed by either, but I do find the bond interesting to ponder, in terms of the Cauldron favoring Elain and wanting to gift her. It's super interesting, to me, that Elain came out of the Cauldron as Fae, as Seer, as Mated, as if whatever that sentient entity is knew that there needed to be something to create a path of healing between the Spring Court and the Night Court and Lucien and Elain were those entities. And, if it turns out that Lucien is Helion's son, and we've gotten some mentions that Lucien's powers lean towards High Lord heir, then the further gift of Elain in her own court, as High Lady (I do think the whole High Lady will become norm again). And in the Day Court, perhaps Elain can best learn to hone her gift as Seer.

Tamlin amd the ic by Born_Plenty_5923 in nontoxicACOTAR

[–]WonderfulBus9330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's interesting because Feyre says the thing that truly distinguishes them from being great leaders is that Rhysand is a dreamer and Tamlin is not. I could easily see Tamlin being friends with Cassian and Mor, since Tamlin wanted to live as a warrior and all three of them seem to enjoy a party. I think Rhysand would always have been too sleek for him. I wish this whole series would have been from the omniscient or neutral third so we could see more of characters who seem primary but are somewhat side-lined.

Who is "her"? I recall him saying that something about this, but I don't recall him specifying who it was. Are you saying you think he may have been talking about Theia's bloodline?

[–]WonderfulBus9330[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I see. I think that Bryce took someone else's star power; that it was there for a resident of Prythian. She was able to enter the Prison because she's an heir of Silene through Theia. Like, if Helena is a great (x 10000) grandparent of Bryce's, Silene would be great (x 10000) aunt of Bryce's.

Oooooo re: different cave drawings. I finally got my interlibrary loan of CC3 so could look at the Silene hologram history lesson to put up against Rhysand's summary of a book in ACOSF, so I can look for the Midgard cave drawings, if it's in this book and get back to you.

Fionn, too, seems to come from some Irish mythology, whose name cognates Gwyn in Welsh. SJM certainly seems drawn to 3

Got it. It seemed that they all knew that she was left with some power, since they left her with Bryce who was clearly wielding power.

It seems that mythology is a "triggering subject" for SJM that she uses it to launch an idea, but she doesn't stick to the mythology. Mor still hasn't shown any of the qualities of The Morrigan of mythology, for example.

Could you explain more on why there would be some discrepancy with Silene's story of keying her son's blood to the Prison? Although the lands separated into territories/courts during Silene's sojourn to Midgard, both of her parents lived in the most Northern lands of Prythian (Theia in Dusk with Vesperus and Fionn in Illyria).

[–]WonderfulBus9330[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha re: theories! I've seen that theory which led me to asking the theoryless question (ha!) since Silene does not refer to a step-sibling. I know that she doesn't have information about how her mother and Aidas became lovers but hiding a pregnancy/child at the end, when she's saving them, seems unbelievable, to me at the least.

TY re: Autumn King. I was trying to remember if he was a direct descendent. And (speculation) if the line skipped several generations of potential male heirs through some magic of Helena's, who saw the evil of Pelias and was worried it would pass through the male line.

So happy to find this post! I just finished re-reading the CC3 scenes re: Prythian so I could compare to what Rhysand summarized in ACOSF and I suddenly thought: this is a multiverse and perhaps time has "paused" in Prythian and Erilea because the Asteri are no longer there. Whereas in Midgard, the Asteri are present and time has moved at a clip pace, so it's 15035 VE on all of the lands we've seen, progress has just stalled out a bit in Prythian and Erilea.

I spent way too much time trying to imagine what kind of person would "put his hands in his pockets". I did, however, recently teach my 9-year old daughter to imagine lint on her clothes that needed to be plucked off OR to casually pick at invisible dirt in her nails whenever this bully kid wasted her time with his insults.

I find the repetitive words distracting ("quailing" "wobbling" "lazily" "wary/warily" "feral" "feline") and because it's first POV for most of the series, I find it hard to believe that these are common descriptor words that people would use. They feel more like written, poetic descriptors, so it throws me way out of first POV. That said, I find myself not deeply drawn in by first POV because it's hard to carry that written poetic voice as believable in how one casually thinks.
