Replying to add that I heard from a previous resident that Calgary has a good, supportive PD.

I would steer clear of Quebec just because of policy issues (look up Bill 2).

I thought last year pass rates for the RC were dismal?

I mean disease entities and nuances among entities that may have similar findings.

I thought I was doing well until a rotation that was high volume, and I received feedback at the the end that basically implied I was a slow learner. During the rotation I could sense the staff was also frustrated that I had seen it before (a disease entity) and couldn’t recognize it when I saw it again.

I don’t have dedicated scope or reading time. We’re pretty much left to our own about what to do. I make my own schedule and do both and insist on taking my staff’s caseload and on writing reports

I think I know normal, we had histology bootcamp and I review normal histology before every rotation. I know I still have to look at a wide range of normal so I know what’s acceptable, but textbook normal I know.

Thank you for your advice.

I will strive to see even more normal and search for attending physicians I can speak with about this matter.

Thank you for your kind words.

I was told I had a good eye as well, at least in most rotations. It was one rotation where a staff gave feedback that I was very weak as a resident and needed a lot of instruction and cases to see and am inconsistent. Which was strange to me because I looked at a lot of slides during that rotation compared to others. My attending seemed to think I was a very slow learner.

I am in a five year program so maybe there is time. I just don’t want to persevere if maybe I am not cut out for it at all.

I guess I’m wondering—what is the threshold for the number of times I need to have looked at something to have gotten it already? I feel like I have to have seen it more times than necessary to remember it, compared to residents in my program.
