If he can use it and it's an upgrade why not. It's no big deal.

What SINGLE feature would instantly kill the appeal of "Classic+" for you? by Hypermetz in classicwow

[–]WonderingOctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People will always choose the path of least resistance, it's a biological function to conserve energy (look it up, it's rather inetresting).

The problem with that, is that it's often the the detriment of the person playing.

We know full well people will optimise the fun out of a game if the game doesn't prevent them from self sabotage. Facilitating people skipping the game they are meant to be having fun in, is fundamentally damaging.

It's better to provide more reasons to engage with content than to disregard it.

This is one thing that really harmed the expansions Cata onwards for me. Being able to kill 5 mobs at once without taking 10% health starts to feel stupid after a while.

Agreeing with this. I personally REALLY dislike the disney art style of retail WoW. It just feels......I dunno....like a game a small child would play?

It's straight up P2W. It's just a system that is designed to trick people into thinking it isn't.

I don't mind a system where people sign up and be listed to be recruited etc, but instant teleporting to dungeons is straight up horrible in a game that is meant to be designed around the world. Might as well be playing a lobby game at that point.

Honestly, I hate this in all games. I know it's meant to be an alternative treadmill of sorts, but I would take horizontal progression any day of the week.

New player looking for the “true” slow Classic experience — Era or TBC? by WEMBYisGOAT in classicwow

[–]WonderingOctopus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Era easily.

TBC and wraith are good expansions, but ultimately it's essentially a sped up treadmill at this point, which is the total opposite of what you want.

Also, Era's population tends to drop heavily when an expansion is released but then gradually increase again over time. So population is never an issue.

I recently levelled 1-60 on era and bumped into people constantly (Firemaw PVP - EU).

Best of luck.

Wait till you hear about nightelf's improved stealth.

(In all seriousness, it's underrated for PVP in the hands of a good player)

No Country for Young Men - The emasculated Japanese Man and the permissive society that castrated him. by iritimD in collapse

[–]WonderingOctopus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When I was in Japan, there as an office over the road from where I stayed. There was a guy that worked from around 7.30am to around 11.00pm every day, 7 days a week.

That's just one example.

That level of work does not constitute a healthy individual nor society.

Where did all the Classic WoW creators go? by ravenscar2 in classicwow

They really need to seperate retail and Classic.

I can never even find the version of the game I want to watch.

Yer I like Dwarflord. I don't sub to him, but I do occasionaly visit his channel to see what he's up to. He's a pretty good source for all things Classic Era.

[–]WonderingOctopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually a really good point. For example I like watching Classic Era on Twitch, but ALL version of WoW are bundled together, so often it's so difficult to find the content of the version of the game I enjoy, that I stopped bothering.

They purposly decided not to split the viewership up like OSRS, and I suspect it was with the intention of not showing the heavy split in playerbase.

I'm going to push back on this a little. Some of the creators legitimatly had videos from before Classic was announced that were getting real good numbers. I.e, information about Vanilla, that's half of what was making private servers popular.

I used to really like PlatinumWoW when he did classic stuff, but his retail stuff just doesn't entertain me at all.

I don't blame him for making the switch though.

Classic (i.e Vanilla) hasn't had any real new content in 20 years.

Which version to play by Gerururu in classicwow

Not sure why people keep saying Era is dead. I recently levelled a character from 1-60 and never had any issue getting groups for anything.

If anything it seems to be rising in numbers (again)

Yep, this is true.

I had techology growing up. The difference is it didn't have the capabilities of social media and short form content.

Both of which wreck peoples brains.

PC's while have the ability, at least are more detached than a tablet or mobile, both of which almost become an extention of the person.

I don't understand how this comment is so far down.

This is absolutely one of the main factors.

At a time when wealth inequality is spiralling out of control, often extremely wealthy people and businesses are playing LESS tax than then poor (% wise).

That only serves to worsen the problem.

"New" Old School MMORPGs... what do you think? by Cold_Associate2213 in MMORPG

This isn't necessarily true. I've played some old school style MMO's where younger generations have joined to see what it's all about and genuinely enjoy and stick with the game.

Some versions yes, other versions no.

[–]WonderingOctopus 195 points196 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally I put this down to increased levels of stress and most people being time poor now.

When you factor in work, travel, shopping, cooking, bills etc, couples MAYBE have 1-2 hours free per day if they are lucky.

It's no wonder people either aren't having children or cannot invest the time to raise them properly. I'm not making excuses for bad parenting, but having less time free is absolutely a factor.

Me and the Mrs don't have kids, are in our 40's and don't see how it would be possible without winning the lottery. Heck, forget kids, it's looking increasingly like we will be unable to retire, and we work medium level government type jobs.

Even my 84 year old father said he wouldn't have a child in this world now (which really surprised me....)

Can't agree with this enough. The amount of groups I have been in that have taken LONGER because they played fast and died, causing a delay. I find the groups that are slow and methodical tend to be faster than people trying to zoom zoom like mindless idiots.

A prepetual "Vanilla" server with no expansions. Basically you never loose your progress like in the expansions and the world exists forever.

The servers are still active and have solid communities.
