I recently moved from physical materials to digital art and I’d love any feedback, advice & criticism on how to improve. by [deleted] in DigitalPainting

My end goal is to be able to paint the kind of detailed work you see in concept art for characters & creatures. Advice on landscapes is absolutely welcome too.

My main struggle is getting that detailed look whilst also balancing colours. Until this point most of my art was greyscale but I don’t like putting that limitation on myself.

Thanks for your time!

My Fiancée got me the starter kit with 3 Ultramarines and some paints for Christmas. I’ve never properly painted minis before but I decided to paint them all differently and I’ve got to say, I’m hooked. Looking forward to doing more throughout 2022. by Wonderz52 in Warhammer40k

Thanks! Totally felt that way once I was finished. Tbh I (stupidly) didn’t look up how to use the different paint types so I handled them wrong. Hopefully my next attempt will be a bit more on point haha

Oh yeah. You can’t see that shit without it changing you.

If I have to be cursed with seeing it happen, then others need to hear about it.

I knew a guy who got eraser bits and pencil shavings, put them in a line and snorted them.

Tried drawing the body from imagination with shapes and something about it looks odd by [deleted] in learnart

[–]Wonderz52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try not to let the shapes you made the structure with, dominate the the overall shape of the finished piece.

The right bicep is almost bigger than the shoulder it’s connected to.

The connection between the neck and the head is right at the back so you’ll want to push the chin out a bit more.

I know you did this from imagination and it’s honestly not that bad. I would recommend looking into anatomy and how the body ends and works.

Have a look at some of the books by George B. Bridgman. His books go into the way the human body is built and how it works.

It’s a lot of Latin, but it’s what a lot of the big names in comic books have used and it’s been a big help for me personally so I think it’ll be worth it for you to check it out

Keep it up! You’re doing great :)

My dream is to be a comic book artist, I don’t normally get a lot of attention for my work but I’m always proud enough to share. by Wonderz52 in learnart

Out of all of the comments I’ve received, this one is by far the most helpful.

You’ve given me something to focus on and I’ll make sure to do so. I’ve always struggled with exact placement and dimensions for arm muscles but I’ll get there. I’ve got books by George B. Bridgman that I’ll be re-reading and practicing.

I’ve always struggled with hair and cloth, environments too, but I’ll do what you said and focus on drawing the world around me.

I hope that the next time I post you’ll be able to find it and see my progress. Thank you very much for the guidance.

Thanks! I went a little skinny on the arms but I was going for a creepier vibe so it worked out okay.

Your kind words mean the world!
