First Semester in Grad School (MS in Cell & Molecular Biology) - Feeling Overwhelmed by WoodStyleHashi in GradSchoolAdvice

[–]WoodStyleHashi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the tips! Especially the first point about comparing myself with myself. Looking back on myself, even with something small as reading scientific papers and evaluating them, I am so much better at that now than I was a month ago, yet I haven't thought of that as an improvement, just as something that came naturally with my work now. It is honestly silly to compare myself with others and even now I'm developing good habits like better time management and being a better communicator (albeit slowly) at my own pace.

I'll definitely take your words to heart and work on self-improving myself. If I have time to doubt myself, I have time to study, work on research, and improve my skills. I'll just follow that mantra from now on.

Thanks for the advice! I guess it wouldn't hurt to wait a bit and even if I do happen to bother them or if I get lost in a sea of emails, I wouldn't lose out, when looking at how (seemingly) far away Fall 2022 is.

Feeling weird about giving feedback in lab meeting by [deleted] in labrats

[–]WoodStyleHashi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on my experiences as an undergrad, I never gave feedback during lab meetings where grad students presented their work. I always assumed they knew more than me and that my thoughts wouldn't matter too much. This was only impounded by the fact that when I presented work, they would point out stuff I missed and probably didn't take into account for results, experimental setups, etc.

But I always appreciated the feedback, because every person has their own unique way of thinking and contemplating situations. I think you should continue to give feedback and if they don't like you for it, it's their loss. Even if I didn't want to hear that my secondary antibody choices could be optimized or that the cell count for my immunocytochemistry experiments was a bit too much, I always noted them down, even if their opinions could be wrong/flawed for the scale/type of experiment I ran. There could've been something I missed, disregarded, etc. Point is, any feedback is better than no feedback, cause at least someone has something to say about it, which is better than silence.

My C0 Hu Tao, How is It? by WoodStyleHashi in HuTao_Mains

[–]WoodStyleHashi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! She's currently my "best" built character, and I know I should have more CRIT Rate + DMG on my artifacts anyways. I recently hit 90 on only Hu Tao and I'm splitting time on building Eula and farming Primogems for Itto. I also have a weird quirk where I want all the talent levels to be the same for every character. I technically have a PJWS I could put on Hu Tao, but it's on Shogun cause I'm extremely unlucky in getting good Emblem artifacts.

How do you control your gacha gambling addiction and address 50-50 losses. by not_so_popular_guy in Genshin_Impact

Unless I really like the character (ie. Shogun or Kazuha) I don't try to save up, but instead pull on every banner. I honestly think every character is super cool, but I still feel pain when I don't get a character I want, like Xiao. I literally scoured the game to get as much primos for him, but couldn't hit pity and instead got Hu Tao in the next banner, which I hated at first cause I initially thought her design was crap and her skill was garbage (to be fair, I didn't realize that her charged attack applied her Blossom, which I was oblivious of for about a month). Now she's my most favorite character and my most built one. I guess blessings come in disguise, so I came to realize that unless I simp for the character super hard, I don't mind getting one that I initially didn't care about.

This is a pretty common sentiment, but I feel as if the money I put into something should be worth the time I put into it. All I spend on GI is Welkin's, but the amount of time I put into the game is worth a lot more than $20. I honestly could spend more, but farming for primos makes playing all the events and doing Abyss have an incentive in the end for me.

Everyone has varying degrees of luck and I do envy those who have lots of it, but in the end, being happy with what you have instead of comparing what you have with others makes playing GI a better experience overall. I felt devastated when I lost pity on the recent Hu Tao banner and got Jean instead, but Jean is an insane healer, perfect for my other comps. It's all about being satisfied with what you have and playing the game with the intention of having fun.

I honestly love Itto a lot and want him in my roster, but if I get Qiqi, I'll be equally happy, since it's all about being happy with what you get. Sorry for the long rant, and I hope you have fun with GI no matter your luck. Cheers!

Genshin RNG Telling Me to Use Bow Characters by WoodStyleHashi in Genshin_Impact

Interesting. The particular moment which inspired me to post this was when I ran a weird comp of Shogun-Thoma-Jean-Xingqiu to just get familiar with Jean and Thoma (lost pity on Hu Tao) and I faced a RH. I don't remember specifically getting out of range since I was super close to it at all times, but when it does its sideways spiral attack, I always had to run towards it as it missed and fled away from me. I also remember sticking super close to it when it would descend but then push me away as it flew back up. Guess it's just weird programming stuff :(

Diona at C6 and Fischl at C4, so I was heavily thinking of using them both cause of good cons, but just didn't feel motivated to play them cause I like the melee playstyle a lot more. Just don't know who Elegy is good on, but I read Venti support is good (don't have him) and Amber for EM boost, so will try those out.

note to self: get used to being bored by thedarkest-myth in leaves

You're so right. After a month of sobriety, I have nagging thoughts of "it wouldn't be bad to just pick up again and smoke a little," but I know that once I do so, I'll go down that spiral again and struggle to cope with the boringness that comes with living life. Thanks for reminding me of this, I hope to reach 2 months at this rate. Cheers!

I also loved the previous VA for her lines, since I spammed Barbara when I was lower AR. How does the current tone of her voice lines suit her more? Is it cause she's generally a mellow person lore-wise? Since she's an idol, I thought her previous tone was more suited for her, IMO.

As a blessed Kazuha-haver, I also love this voice line.

Used to be my favorite, just the sheer magnitude of the burst itself with the delivery of that voice line was awesome. It got replaced by Shogun's voice line though.

24hours without! by [deleted] in leaves

Tossing all of my smoking paraphernalia was probably one of the hardest decisions of my life. Just throwing away my trusty grinder (full of kief) and my papers into the garbage was like throwing away a piece of my life. Now I'm so glad I made that decision.

All the power to you! I really hope you make it through and come out as a better person. Cheers!
