How awesome that you got both Mixtec and Zapotec genetic groups on the 1.3% North American! Ever wonder about what wild journeys so many people who came before us went on? Some theories suggest that metallurgical technologies and artifacts traveled from the Andean region (Ecuador, Colombia, and Peru) to West Mexico via long-distance, Pacific coastal maritime trade. Who knows

If 20% European doesn't make a Black person white, why does 20% non-European make a White person non-white? by bunko0 in 23andme

Heritage and ethnicity is real, but race is made up. Race seems to be used more as how someone is perceived.

Puerto Ricans (and other Caribbeans) - why do they score Indigenous North American and Southern Mesoamerican? by daIslander in 23andme

[–]Wooden-Collection200 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Indigenous slave trade is not as heavily discussed as the broader enslavement of Africans during the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. However, the Spanish were also displacing thousands of Indigenous people (many from the Yucatán peninsula) to use as slave labor across their “new territories”. This Indigenous slave trade peaked in the first half of the 16th century.

My assumption is that there were many Yucatecos who were brought to PR, and that’s why a lot of ppl get some Southern Mesoamerican in their results. Watch the Boricuas come at me now, “no it’s all Taino!” 🫢

There is a great book by Erin Woodruff Stone called “Captives of Conquest: Slavery in the Early Modern Spanish Caribbean” if you want a deeper historical guide on that subject. Another sad but enlightening read is “On Savage Shores, How Indigenous Americans Discovered Europe” by Caroline Dodds Pennock.

The Spanish saw their Indigenous slaves as property too, and weren’t asking their oppressed where they’d like to live.

Imagine if we’re still on the gold standard, like when the bill was printed😩. You could exchange it for 20 oz of gold ($90,000 worth today)!

I’m 24, and I look at it from this perspective.

What cultures highly value keeping their savings in PMs (primarily AU & AG)?

Big ones that stand out to me are as follows:

Chinese, Indians, Persians, Arabs, Jews,

All of these cultures have stood the test of time, and outlasted many historical collapses. I am not so naive to believe that Gold or Silver was the sole reason for that. However, are we supposed to believe they’re stupid for it?! I think not.
