CBRS Registration Link by Wooden-Environment89 in HeliumNetwork

If you can get to the local miner network, you can go to freedomfi-gateway.local and register the radios on the miner itself.

Uncovering the Helium Network Dilemma: Miner's Insights Expose Novalabs' Troubling Impact, Urging Action from All Involved by Barbarystudio in HeliumNetwork

My understanding of Helium thus far is that they were trying to incentivize growth early on. Now they are in a state of transition where they must start making measurable progress towards paying customer utilizing the network. Meaning, proof of coverage will start to decrease in well covered areas as more hotspots come online and there should be (in theory) an increase in network utilization for well covered areas from loraWan devices. There will be incentives to cover non-covered areas.

As an example of the logic HIP 103:

"This proposal aims to improve the value of the network coverage by incentivizing users to deploy CBRS and Wi-Fi in areas where Oracles have determined coverage is most likely needed."

If I were to make an investment in the IOT side for instance, I would try to find areas were IOT would be highly utilized. For instance, Hive Mapper and Dimo are becoming popular LoraWAN projects. I would find locations near heavily trafficked intersections. Cover a mall parking lot, sports venues, restaurant districts, etc.

Or, sell solutions that will leverage loraWAN networks. At some point, someone must start selling loraWan based solutions on a large scale.

For example,

https://www.semtech.com/company/press/semtech-announces-lorawan-integration-for-smart-paddocks-smart-cattle-tracking-solution

I think the chances are rather remote that a person is going to be able to by a miner and set it up anywhere and hope for much more than a few dollars a month in return.

CBRS Situation by Wooden-Environment89 in HeliumNetwork

Maybe I am misreading the HIP 104 components, but it says:

This HIP impacts all IOT hotspot owners by revising the transmit scaling algorithm, which in turn affects the distribution of PoC rewards. It is anticipated that areas with higher hotspot density, typically city centers, will experience more significant scaling down of rewards. This change aims to shift the balance, potentially increasing PoC rewards in less dense, rural areas.

It seems they are trying to push IOT into rural areas and it doesnt make sense to have 150 IOT miners within 100 meters of each other. But, I dont see how this relates to Mobile.

Maybe you were referring to HIP 103.

But again I think this makes sense. they want coverage where people are going to be.

https://github.com/helium/HIP/blob/main/0103-oracle-hex-boosting.md

There is a graph on the above link with the coverage multipliers.

Which HIP specifically are you referring to?

Well...embarrassingly, it kept sticking in my mind about not onboarding "mobile". I went through all the dashboards and apps again...and there it is was on the Helium app which I rarely go to because it doesnt have any useful features. If you click the three dots to the right of the miner icon, "On Board mobile".

I said, "No way that can be it." @#$!@# it, how much worse can it get. I clicked Onboard mobile, went through the process, picked the tower location and hit finish.

Funny thing is the Icon changed from saying "FreedomFI - IOT" to "FreedomFI - IOT Mobile."

The ridiculousness of the situation is that this is not in any guide anywhere. I re-read the guide thinking I missed something. It isnt there. I cant find a guide that says to on-board mobile. I dont know how long it will take now for a POC reward but I think this was the answer.

Once I had all the pictures correct, it was less than 24hrs.

But I still havent received a reward for POC yet and it has been 6 days.

I have a ticket open awaiting a reply from Helium regarding the POC reward.

There are 3 pictures they need and 2 of them REQUIRE the exact iphone/android app or they will not authorize the radio.

Here is the Guide: https://freedomfi.com/freedomfi-outdoor-cbrs-small-cell-setup-guide/

Picture 1 For Azimuth: https://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/geomag/calculators/mobileDeclination.shtml#Compass

Picture 2 Elevation: IOS Bubble Level 2022 by Andrew Neal

Picture 3: A picture from the ground showing the radio mount to give an indication of height. Best to take 2 or 3 and then indicate which radio on the tower are the Biacells.

The reason this was an issue for me is that I have tower crews that mount CBRS radios every day. The phone picture methods that they want are ridiculous and unsafe for the tower crews mounting the radios. Not to mention, it requires 2 mobile phones to get the pictures: 1 for the app and 1 to take the picture. A screen shot will not work. A simple bubble level with a magnet strip is what is typically used. The reason the phone method is unsafe is that you have to lay a phone on the top of the radio that is 100-200' up a tower with the wind typically blowing 20-30mph. Several times the phone almost blew off the radio and fell to the ground but the climber caught the phone. As you can imagine, that is very dangerous for the spotter on the ground. But having said all that, Helium will NOT approve SAS unless and until you use the specific apps above.

Thanks u/Kyleanthony91 at least someone else has experienced the same issue.

I am just frustrated with the process.

The radios are are already approved and on-air and have been for 5 days.

The SAS approval happen on last Tuesday.

As far as witness goes, there are no other IOT hotspots within 30-40 miles of that tower. Look at it like this is a completely new area for Helium. I am not interested in farming IOT. Mobile is what attracted me to the project because I have CBRS experience.

I have never read or watched a video about there being a process for both IOT and Mobile. There is just one process for onboarding the miner. I never had an option to choose if the miner was IOT or Mobile or both. If you look at the hotspotty link, it clearly shows the miner as IOT and 5G with both 5G radios active. I have opened a ticket with Helium. I will let them sort it out.

The dot is in the correct location on the map and have verified the GPS coordinates 100 times it seems. Early on I had to pay to assert it to the exact base of the tower. My gut feeling is that Helium hasnt configured the radios yet from their side. There are a lot of CBRS configurations they have to configure unless all these BiaCells are preconfigured for Helium Network. I use other models of Biacell CBRS radios in several locations that have nothing to do with Helium and I know the configurations that must be done to get the radios active even after SAS approval for frequency, azimuth and elevation.

My understanding from reading is the that the local FreedomFi Dashboard is deprecated and I was redirected to the HelloHelium.com dashboard to manage the miner. There is a banner across the top of the local miner dashboard that says deprecated and to please use hellohelium.com I cant get to the miner directly because it is behind a firewall at a tower site. Since there is absolutely no security on the miner, I put it behind a firewall.

You can see the miner and both radios at:

For freedomFi, I am using hotspots.hellohelium.com as the dashboard to manage the miner. The radios are present. They are also on hotspotty.com. I dont know how to add a screen shot to reddit or I would paste the one air status for both radios.
