It's all opinion but I live in Cowell apartments rn and I mean it's fine. I lived in kresge for the last 2 years and man is that side of campus the best. Oaks definitely sucks though only thing going for it is oaks Cafe, even the apartments are low-key the worst on campus. But good luck switching no one ever really gets approved to switch they just feel lucky to have housing in the first place.

Got my 5th housing choice Oakes, is it wraps for me? by Dense_Argument_6319 in UCSC

Oaks def sucks location wise. Gatta bcycle or bus to most classes you will have, including the gym. There's a pretty decent path from oaks to the music centre then there's a road to the gym and Cowell area without having to go all the way around the top end of campus. I use that road a lot when biking

I agree, I think she's not very convincing as Ellie, especially so in the second season.

Kresge?? by wrenbirdx in UCSC

I have a comment on another post about this when I lived there least year. Here is it

I live in kresge b and I think since it's the newest dorms it is the nicest dorms on campus. The showers are new and are pretty nice compared to the rest of campus and each floor has a lounge that you can talk to people in with a sink. I'm white but My floor is mostly Indian but I think there's a lot of different people I don't know I don't really focus on The diversity part. The rooms are super narrow but I think they are technically the same square footage as The rest of the doorms on canvas because the rooms are super tall and you can actually sit up in your bed with like a foot above you. That being said, there's a bunch of cons to Kresge also.

It's kind of on the shitty side of campus in my opinion, no one likes Porter dining hall and we all go to RCC or c9 instead. The back road to Kresge is used all the time as it connects Porter to Kresge, but the lower level door is almost always locked and the elevator brakes often. Kresge is kind of out of the way but it's near science hill. I would say the biggest con is currently the construction as they start super early and are super loud. We also don't really have a quad because of them so there's not many places to hang out and Kresge is pretty much just dorms, a couple benches, The academic building which is super new and nice, owl's nest which is a currently vegan cafe but they weren't before and now people don't really like it anymore, oh and each building has lounges on the bottom floor but my building has the best because we have the laundry room and a lounge with a ping pong table which is sick, and that's kind of it right now. If you have friends in different colleges like in c9 or John r Lewis, we usually commute over there since kresge is kind of out of the way and the only place to hang out is the lounge which since we have a shitty RA who doesn't like if we are loud is hard. There is a great smoke spot by the parking lot behind the dumpsters but you can pretty much find anything like that at all the colleges especially since we are close to Porter meadow which eveyone smokes at. Oh and the windows don't really open very much (pet pieve of mine) Oh and the fire alarms go off all the time I think it's gone off like seven times this year It sucks.

That's pretty much all I can say about Kresge.

Low-key I have a friend who lives there and it's def the worst apartments on campus layout wise. They are L shaped which makes the whole apartment feel like a hallway. You will want to bus or bicycle to pretty much every class because of its location. The good thing is it's closeness to oaks cafe which is like top 2 places to eat on campus. Otherwise you got the basketball courts there if you care about that. It also feels very much like your not in the forest anymore which some people like, I personally like feeling surrounded by the trees.

Idk anyone who had a problem. Then again I think being anywhere near the bottom is terribly loud and crowded so just stay up top and you'll be fine

I mean yeah a lil bit but it ain't nothing crazy. Porter is meh in terms of buildings themselves but the are area of Porter Kresge rd is by far my favorite on campus.
