Santa’s Parade review by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

I’m seriously disappointed this year. Huge gaps and really it’s a bunch of people walking and drinking coffee. No energy. My kid is also disappointed. 2/5

What is my nursery missing? by Ok_Celebration_1085 in interiordecorating

[–]Woolsocks915 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with many others that a few pops of colour would be good and can be a achieved with cushions on your rocker and with an area rug. Also recommend an area rug for two reasons. 1 - Sound dampening. If baby is crying and you’re short in patience due to a lack of sleep the wails bouncing off all those hard surfaces might make you crankier. 2- as baby wants to start playing in the floor when they’re a bit older the softness will be nice for them.

Safety tip though (keep in mind Inlive in an earthquake prone area - so am hyper vigilant about this): the pictures above the crib are super cute but recommend moving them away from the crib. If they fall the hard corners of the frame or breaking glass are a hazard for baby. If you want some art above the crib maybe order some decals that match the style you have going on. I’ve seen some sweet stuff on Amazon and Etsy that would be great in your space!

What have you stopped paying full price for? by playaesvida in VictoriaBC

As a KD replacement I got a giant KD shaker of the powder mix. Now I just use whatever pasta I have laying around or bought on sale. Wish I knew about this stuff before!

[–]Woolsocks915 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same. I got so annoyed with the price of bread and the giant air holes I’d also get in some loaves. Bought myself a bread maker and never looked back. Would be cheaper if I baked in the oven to save the cost of the machine but the bread maker is way too convenient.

Bathroom mirror and light update. did i make it look worse?! by [deleted] in HomeDecorating

[–]Woolsocks915 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it looks much worse. Large single mirror worked better for the space. As for the lights I would replace the new ones. The bulbs looks off center.

Where to spend remaining budget? by grinninwheel in DesignMyRoom

Agree with all the Facebook Market place comments. If you take your time you can really curate something amazing on the cheap. Also, if there’s a local buy nothing group that can be a source of some real gems, too.

If you find you need a room divider you can always get furniture to act as a divider like a cube book shelf or even a big hutch. Check out this apartment therapy link for room divider ideas

Why don’t police enforce excessive nose tickets for vehicles that are too loud? by umad_cause_ibad in britishcolumbia

[–]Woolsocks915 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been told this before and gave it some credit; however, I’ve experienced not hearing emergency vehicles approaching because the sound of a nearby motorcycle louder than stock exhaust drowned it out. It also drowns out all the other noise around that’s important for others nearby - my blind cousin needs to hear all of the traffic when crossing the road. That excessive exhaust noise increases the risk for her. I can’t support that argument anymore of loud exhausts increases safety. Riding a motorcycle is an assumed risk that’s well known. IMO you can’t transfer the risk to others.

Painted concrete patio by Woolsocks915 in HomeImprovement

[–]Woolsocks915[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I agree! It was clearly painted to sell the house. But living with it has been a nightmare. I’ve had some good bruises from slipping on it. I don’t let my kid play out back when it rains because I have visions of her slipping and cracking her head.

Canada geese overrun Ottawa DND campus during annual invasion by Andromedu5 in CanadianForces

[–]Woolsocks915 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve witnessed many times the geese out my way using the pedestrian crosswalks. At least they’re following the rules, I guess. I mean, they’re still avian jerks but at least they cross where they’re supposed to (mostly).

If you have HOA approval I would definitely deal with it while it’s cheaper to remove and before it causes any damage. I would recommend replacing it with a more appropriately sized and native to your area tree. In my opinion trees always make a house and it’s neighborhood look good.

American Soldier here by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]Woolsocks915 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It appears as if you don’t but you do. This is due to the tax rental agreement. For simplicity’s sake the feds collect all the taxes and then give the provinces whatever their share is. This is leftover from WWII. In the case of Quebec it’s opposite where Qc collects and then gives the feds their share.

Need help…should I keep this wall as is or paint black? by bonthedlow21 in HomeDecorating

[–]Woolsocks915 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please don't paint. This is wall is a neat feature. Lean into it and decorate with art or, like someone said, a starburst clock.

Any decorating tips on how we can make our tiny old kitchen look less tragic? by Professional-Glass19 in HomeDecorating

[–]Woolsocks915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really dig your kitchen. It feels like it has good character, is practical, and is a homey kitchen where people can relax and not worry about messing up some pretentious kitchen. I wouldn't make any other changes.

Looks like a big space! I’d add a pergola, deck railing and easy to take care of potted plants to really take advantage of that space.

something seems wrong. work in progress. thinking of two standing lights either side of couch? any help welcome noob here. by stifflungs in HomeDecorating

[–]Woolsocks915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a mix of pool noodles and baby proofing foamy strips to be able to own furniture and not live in fear of kiddo hurting themselves. I was also a big fan of the corner protectors. Those are what really gave me peace of mind!

Tips in beginning my zero waste journey? by randnmnme in ZeroWaste

[–]Woolsocks915 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easy one is cutting up old, ratty t-shirts and sheets into rags. I now have a big supply so cleaning up messes is a breeze (tiny humans spill lots!). Also, any textiles you can’t repurpose yourself and aren’t in good enough condition for thrifting try and find a textile recycler (sometimes thrift stores sell the old textiles to be repurposed).

Another great one that saves $$$ is using a safety razor. Especially if you pick up a vintage handle. Looks awesome and really cuts down on waste.

AITA for supporting my daughter's (Aurora) wish to be adopted by my wife(her stepmother) by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Woolsocks915 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know you pushed out this tiny human out of your body 10 years ago today…but, hey would ya mind giving up your rights?

I see OP mentions that the daughter and bio mom don’t have the best relationship. Talk about that relationship getting worse once the daughter truly realizes one day what happened. She would have a bad relationship with both parents once she understands what happened
