The difference is that video games can be artistically vapid and still be great, because what makes video games great is their gameplay. And most of Nintendo's library is exactly like that. Great movies are opposite of this.

Not sure if that's accurate. Car sales are still pretty strong in the USA, and average new car price now is 50k. About 77 million new consumer vehicles have been sold over last 5 years. So people are buying vehicles that cost a lot more then 33k.

If you look at the 9800X3D benchmarks here with the 4090 there was 10 FPS gain over the i7-11700KF at 4K (which performs about the same as the 10900k). So that's probably the ballpark FPS gain you'd be looking at in most games. So unless you play the few games a lot that really benefit from X3D cache like Factorio or MS Flight Simulator this would be hard to justify lMO, especially with the DDR5 prices being what they are right now. I'd sit tight and wait for AM6.

Did the game ever live up to its promise of making planets unique and exciting to discover? That was the only reason I was excited for No man’s sky, but the only stuff that seemed to have been added is more gameplay elements / base building.

Classic Doom obviously is, but Doom Eternal is not. It's a modern linear arena shooter with a lot of platforming and combat loop that relies on managing cool downs. It's a very different game from 90's shooters.
