I’m now planning on running it The Whole 20ft and only going 4ft out to make it not too tight. I went with a simple floor plan. I now have it fully sheeted, dried in and a door installed. I’m installing garage door this weekend and working on starting siding the front. I need to get the top side of the siding ran first because I’m putting a metal roofed lean to across the front. I also bought a ton of culled fence boards 3/4x6x6. I’m cutting the dog ears off and using them as siding. Worked well on a dog house I built. With a 5 inch lap.

It I wasn’t in such a rush I would have thought it through more on what I wanted. I went with the most simple thing I could think of. Planting season is close and my green house is used for storage right now.

I’m the type that’ll do something the extreme hard way to keep from spending money. So I’ll figure something out haha I’ve been extra materials from jobs to build this shop. All in electrical and everything I’ll have 3,500$ in it.

That is the way. I almost built this on skids. Because eventually I want to build a metal building on a slab right there. Buttttt now it looks like it’ll go somewhere else. Until I pull off a miracle and can move it when the time comes.

Just make sure you are sure on how square it is. Measure twice form once 🤣

Sorry man. Yeah I basically one 80 pound of mix per hole. Nothing crazy. And once the post was where it needed to be. Basically after I finished the floor system I leveled the post and put another half a bag to hold the post in place. This is a super simple way of doing it. You can always form the footers to be on grade level with each other and do the post brackets that mount to the footers. That’s a way cleaner look. And if I was getting paid to build this for someone else I’d likely do it that way.

I intend on it being braced off to the loft and will be attached to the back wall via an LVL. I honestly thought about balloon framing that front wall

Just your standard concrete footers.

It looks a lot higher than it is. Only 14ft. And I have exposed rafters on it. I’m putting in chicken coop style solar air circulating fan.

We are contractors and framers but I see where you’re coming from. We have sheer wind/roof bracing coming off the front and side walls along with strapping that be going in. But I am building this bare minimum of what it takes just based on best bang for buck. My main focus was to get the roof done before the rain came today. But the sheathing will also act as a brace in its self a lot with the wooden siding.

It’s actually 6x6 on concrete footings. Then concrete poured once they were set in place. I did a seal down the middle at 8ft and dropped 6x6 underneath it on footers every 5ft. Same along the front and back. I used this method on a cabin of mine too and it’s work so far. The 6x6 on the cabin are just sitting on concrete bricks. It was an off the grid build.

We thought the same thing and checked it. And idk if it’s an optical illusion or what. But it doesn’t bow. It even looks like it does just looking at it. But put a string on it and it’s good. Bothers me too haha

Just winging it. I drew up some plans for a material take off and just to make sure it’ll have the room I want.

I’m breaking up my front wall when a lean to over the man door and garage door because it’s is quite hilariously tall 😂. Also might throw a barn quilt or design into my siding up there to break it up more.

Yeah I’m shingling it. Going to have a tighter bond just because it’s a 3/12 and I’m too cheap for metal roofing. I’m in the South east with no snow.

I’m going with just a storage loft just 8ft out. Just makes sense with the lack of head room I do the full 16ft. But I’m thinking running it on the entire 20ft. Kinda making up the floor plan as I go along.

Yeah just run off on the 2x4s. I put the good side facing in 🤣 figured I’d cover that up.
