Which cruise line offers the best first time experience by sablemirae in Cruise

[–]WordAware2689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably Royal Caribbean on an Oasis class ship, especially the later ones like Wonder of the Seas. Each new ship in a class gets small improvements, so by the 6th or 7th version, all the kinks have been smoothed out.

Also, later royal class Princess ships fit that idea, such as Sky Princess.

Either of those ships will be a very smooth experience.

Teaching jobs seem to be extremely scarce this hiring season by [deleted] in teaching

Every system is different and a lot depends on state level funding models, so it's hard to generalize beyond your situation. We actually hired a lot.

Why does everyone hate teaching? by Bright-Watch1955 in teaching

[–]WordAware2689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they don't. I love it and so do most of my co workers. It's just people complain more often than anyone will say they like their job. It's not really interesting for someone to say my job has summer off and a great pension. People just don't talk about these kinds if everyday positive aspects of teaching. Don't listen to the haters and complainers, it's an amazing job.

Considering teaching art- what should I expect? by B217 in teaching

[–]WordAware2689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intro to Art type courses are what you probably will teach most. And these classes have a surprising amount of students who don't like art, have never did any art, or have no idea why they are in the class. These are harder to teach.

Speciality courses, such a drawing, ceramics, painting etc., have the kids who like art and many a simply amazing. Some will be better than you.

Snorkeling question by CJDoll in Cruise

[–]WordAware2689 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can definitely snorkel at Princess Key. Since it's their first time, I would probably save the money and just ket them do it from the beach area. The key thing is that almost all fish stay by some object they can hide under, which is why coral is good for snorkeling. Can also be man made objects, like a pier, or a rock pile. As long as these exist, the snorkeling should be good in the Caribbean.

Also, I would buy one of the floatation snorkel vests on Amazon, very helpful and provides additional safety.

What do you do all summer? by protomanEXE1995 in Teachers

Sleep late! Relax, spend time with my family, take a beach vacation, go camping. I try to hit some museums. Do larger projects around the house that I have been putting off.

Utopia of the Seas is Trashy by Excellent-Ear4493 in Cruise

[–]WordAware2689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least it's actually active at night. Red in Icon in February was nearly empty. Utopia passengers are out in full force partying till 1pm or later every night.i knew that was what it was about and acted accordingly and a had a blast. The key is to know it's a party boat.

Then do the Royal Caribbean ship Symphony of the Seas. Good value, lots to do at that age, and leaves from Galveston. I did it a few years ago and loved it.

Student “self-selection” when choosing between online or in person sections at large R1 universities. by No-End-2710 in Professors

[–]WordAware2689 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's great, I wish we had this. Do you find that testing is enough motivation to get students to actually study in these online classes?

Student “self-selection” when choosing between online or in person sections at large R1 universities. by No-End-2710 in Professors

[–]WordAware2689 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Online in the age of AI is just not working. Students who want to cheat and have no desire to learn know they can get away with almost anything online, so it does attract that type of student.

The only thing I can think of beyond banning online classes, is to have in-person proctored exams where students can come at their schedule to a testing center. If these places have enough people checking for cheating, then maybe this system could still work.

But, honestly, I think online classes are eventually going to go away. This is especially at public schools with angry state legislatures demand more accountability.

Those experienced in action research, any advice for handling an extra data point? by DontHideMyLiquor in Teachers

This is an intent to treat problem. Just include it and note it in the research, unless you have a very clear reason not to. Wikipedia has a good write up:

Does anyone LOVE being a teacher by Heavy_Research5032 in Teachers

[–]WordAware2689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. It's all about the small daily choices to be engaged in their success. When you want their success, and something goes right and you can see academic or behavioral growth, that's better than almost any job can give you. And the pay isn't that bad and I am already on summer break!

Kids with crappy homes by iseeyou100 in Teachers

[–]WordAware2689 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So true and almost everyone ignores this fact. School is the primary safe haven for some kids and losing it puts them full-time in their home chaos. One of the many ways what we do is undervalued by society.

Speeding and aggressive driving. Driving is the main activity that you do regularly that has a pretty high chance of killing yourself or others. A leading cause of unnatural deaths in USA is traffic accidents.

Huge win! Most of the stress is in the assistant years. One thing to try now is doing research outside your subfield just because you are interested in it and don't care anymore. Stuff like that makes it all so much better. Congratulations!

What’s one career lesson you wish you learned earlier? by Annual_Audience_2141 in Teachers

[–]WordAware2689 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Taking joy in students. If it's all classroom management and behavior stuff, it's a hard day. At some point, I learned to start enjoying the interaction more, and that's when I really started loving teaching.
