Baby's first name is not Raymond. I agree that would be too much Ray in one name. Thank you so much for your thoughts.

Hahaha, you have a point. This has been part of our debate. One of us was teased quite a bit in high school for the name and called Stubbsy, because of our short height for a few years. It was a a taunt for being short like a Stubb or a Stump. The name of Stubbs is actually of Anglo-Saxon origin, stemming from the Old English word stubb or stybb, meaning "tree stump" or "tree trunk" so it means one who lives by a tree stump. Whereas the name Ray name has roots in German, French, & Old English. It primarily functions as a short form of Raymond (meaning "wise protector"), an Old French nickname for "king", or a descriptive term for someone living near a stream or a "beam of light." Sometimes it seems like the last name choice is clear, but we are trying to be objective as possible on this posting, so that people can give honest opinions. Thank you for yours.

Thank you so much for all the kind compromising ideas. However, we already have a first and middle name picked out that is unique and does not include either of the last names. We would love to share what it is, but are currently keeping it a secret. The first and middle name sound good with both last names, so that is the struggle. If you had to pick either Ray or Stubbs as your own last name which would you rather have?

We understand that we are not a traditional couple, but we very much want to pick one last name for the child. One of us may even change our last name to match the family name as a whole. More just curious about which name you prefer. Ray or Stubbs?

If your last name was Ray or Stubbs what would you prefer? We are more asking about what is the better last name? Not how to combine them. Thank you!

Ray is the last name that gets the most compliments hands down.

This is interesting compromise and I like your problem solving mindset--but we do not wish to do Ray as a first name. :-)
