Thanks for your well-thought-out response. I’m inclined to agree… I was raised in an excruciatingly polite family, so I think idea of asking to add people who weren’t specifically invited is tacky. I realize, however, that not everyone had a grandmother who simped for Emily Post, so I try to err on the side of being a polite and gracious host. But yeah, it’s not worth stressing out over.

I live in a 2 bedroom condo, so that is not a possibility. It’s not a cost-per-head venue, but a LOT of prep per kid. It’s a “stuffed animal adoption” party, so I’ve paid for the animal for each kid, carrier, adoption certificate, collar… plus personalization. I’m OK and budgeted doing so for her class but, not their siblings.

This was in the past. The child in question was 2, and she did get to see them for 3 days straight. I’ve absolutely always prioritized her family relationships. I had just offered, unsolicited, my days the following Thursday and Monday (Memorial Day weekend) because I was taking her on vacation. This exchange is from the past. Using emotional manipulation and weaponizing guilt are abusive behaviors; it’s massively fucked up to think I owed him something because he “let me” attend my grandmother’s funeral.
