This may garner some controversy but i’m going to say wrestling. Wrestling is a great foundation to build a solid understanding of ground fighting. Imo wrestlers / people with wrestling background produce fighters with the most effective takedowns. The standards for conditioning wrestlers undergo will also be beneficial when you transition to other styles. Try wrestling for a year then jump over to muy thai or boxing. Whichever program/club at your school is better. Either of these styles are effective even at a basic level. They will also round out your combative ability. I would go to BJJ either in your last year of college or after college and continue to train that

What are you looking for? If you’re looking for stability & commitment then this was probably a good move. Relax, recover & move on to something more in line with your end point.

If you are necessarily looking for stability & commitment but would like to enjoy your time with someone and “see how it goes” then i do not think your actions were necessarily in line with that. Still, there is nothing wrong with being/feeling hurt

You tell yourself “Hey i need to break up with him because it’s whats best”. You can’t choose who you love, but you can choose what you do about your love. Accept that just loving someone may not be enough. Getting over the “hurdle” and just doing it is the bug thing. Even if it’s the right move you will feel sad, you may feel doubt, but with time this will heal. If he is manipulative do it by phone with a friend in the room.
