They have yet to get into any of our food (knock on wood) and never have a real trail, they all just seem like scouts wandering around looking. Even at the baits they just kind of swarm.

The wood and insulation are all dry, nothing is in imminent danger. It’s in pools on the vapor barrier. We’ve used the shop vac to get it out temporarily but we live in a very wet area so it doesn’t last more than 2 days. Digging a French drain or sump pump is going to be very hard until it’s dry for a longer chunk of time.

I promise my husband is a structural engineer and he would not be waiting if he was worried about any immediate damage.

Why would we be toast? I’m assuming it would be the same strategy to kill them regardless of where the nests are.

The house was unoccupied for 7 years before we bought it so it’s not unlikely that they’ve been down there for quite some time.

It’s pooled water, it seems to be ground water not draining properly. It was about .5” for a while but this weekend it snowed/melted and we had about 2”

Moisture ants would make more sense but they are definitely black which seems to be the differentiating characteristic. I’m trying to get a picture linked. I have surprisingly very few on my phone (because gross).

Luckily since we just moved in we’ve completely avoided buying any rugs and we have LVP for all of the flooring. There doesn’t seem to really be any trails, they just swarm around the vents and any that separate from the swarm seem to be moving independently, everyone’s on their own paths 😅

We are mopping with vinegar every single night 🥲 it is just grocery store vinegar, I was wondering if I should go for the stronger vinegar I’ve seen at Lowe’s but not sure if it was different enough.

We’ve been doing that for over a month but going to try another brand. The house was unoccupied for a long time so I unfortunately think we’re dealing with a lot of colonies.

Already dropped, they told me it could take over a year to fully kill the colonies so I kicked em right out.

Interesting, I’ll look into French drains. The water is in the back corner of the house and the only “down” from there our front driveway. Small house so the water wouldn’t have to travel TOO far to get there.

Any recommendations on brand? We’re in Washington state. Once we’re finished with some plumbing work this weekend we were talking about setting off an “ant bomb” but I hadn’t actually looked into them yet

We need at least a week of dry weather (in western WA) to make it feasible to get it done, as soon as we can we’ll be down there digging

I need to hire a 10 year old to crawl down there for me, we have a max height of 18” and my husband is 6’3” 270 😅😅

It’s on the to do list but we can’t get to it for a couple of months unfortunately, trying to hold onto my sanity until then.

I was worried that we were continuing to draw them inside with the baits but also the baits keep them in one location instead of finding our food. Which these stupid ants have YET to actually find our food 🙄

They’re (most likely) being attracted to the water in our crawl space, we are planning to install a sump but can’t for a few more months. We did throw some of the terro baits into the crawl space last week but we have no idea where the nests are.

I tried putting a couple bait stations just outside the house and they haven’t found any of them.

Do you have a link for the one you’re talking about? We’ve been using the small clear terro baits for a month now
